Tapping the door with her wand Stef unlocked the door and opened it, leaving it wide open as she entered the classroom. Flicking her wand towards the windows the shades each opened one at a time letting in the beautiful fall morning sun. She didn't believe in having class in the afternoon, fresh bright minds is faces is what she'd always preferred.
Walking over to her bookshelf behind her desk, she lifted out two boxes, and placed them on the edge of her desk. One contained notebooks, of all colors. The other had pencils in all the colors as well, that any student could want.
After that she turned to face the board and across the top wrote
Quote:
Professor Gerlovich Arithmancy Lesson 1 The Core Numbers
Once that was done, Stef wrote below that

Feel free to take a notebook and a pencil of your choice.
Classroom is now locked. If you come to class you need to now knock on the door. If you appear in class, she will question you as to how you got in. just have a good explanation for being late. hehe The more extreme the better XD
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Glancing up at the unusual clock on the wall, it had lots of little planets moving around the time piece with stars twinkling around them, each planet had a moon or two that circled around them. Stef raised her eyebrow in wonderment. She'd given up long before that moment for watching for students, and taken a seat at her desk and had opened a book. Was her note that class was to begin lost on all the announcement boards? No, that would be ridiculous, she posted it on all 5! One maybe, two at most might have gotten buried under other announcements, but not all of them.
Glancing up at the clock again, she figured she would wait a little longer before heading back to her office...or maybe she'd go and find Warren, his class would be starting soon after hers was to end...

Gemini was almost late. She had been to a lot of classes, and she had gotten lost. It was a HUGE school, and she needed a map, but she did not have one. Thankfully, she was not late, but she almost was. She walked into the room and looked around. Huh, maybe she wasn't late, there was no one else in the room, except for the professor of course. "Hello Professor," she said shyly. She walked over to the two boxes, and looked in it. Finally, she selected a yellow notebook and a pencil, then she found a seat and sat down.
Lexi had literally ran to Arithmancy, having gotten distracted in the library by actually finding a book on Greek myths. She'd started reading them, and comparing them to what she remembered her grandparents teling her when she was little, and next thing she knew she'd looked up and realized she'd only had like a minute before she would have been late to class. Turned out wearing her sneakers was a good thing, it seemed.
She slowed down seconds before she would have made a bit of a skidding entrance, though, walking in like a normal person. Albeit a normal person who was a bit flushed from skipping half of the stair treads on her way down. "Hello Professor Gerlovich, I'm sorry about the entrance," she said, making her way to a desk before realizing they were supposed to take a notebook and pencil. Ooh, interesting... And the smile grew on her face as she managed to find a hot pink notebook amongst the others. Taking it, and a silver pencil, she made her way back to the desk she'd dropped her things at. Seemed like maybe she wasn't the only student to almost miss class.
Turning away from the desk she saw one girl walk into the room. A firstie she assumed by seeing how young she looked. Probably lost, she thought silently but giving the girl a warm smile. "Good morning." Nodding as the child took a notebook and pencil she was about to turn to the window when another girl came hurrying through. Another warm smile to the other one as she watched her grab a notebook and pencil. "Good morning."
Turning to the door, she flicked her wand watching as it shut and locked preventing any student to come in without knocking now. The class was late enough, and she wasn't going to have more students appear without being noticed. Giving a small smirk before turning turning to the two students with a smile, she thought wryly to herself. She'd just taken a page out of Warren's book...must be rubbing off on her!
"Good morning to both of you. Has either of you taken Arithmancy whether at home or at school before?" she asked reholstering her wand to her wrist.

Penny had gone straight to the nurse after Transfiguration since her headache had gotten way out of hand. She knew she was late but had a note to explain her tardiness. Tentatively she gave the door knob a twist but found it locked.
Lovely. She sighed. Guess she'd have to bite the bullet. Raising her hand she gave the wood a small but clear knock. Running a hand through her red hair she waited for the Headmistress to answer.
What a day...seriously! First class of the day you would think more students would show up...on time. Walking over to the door she opened it easily and found herself looking at a Ravenclaw student. Her eyes softened too darn it. She had had a thing for the Ravenclaws after being their head of house the term before. "A tad late...?" she asked but never mentioned points being taken.
Moving aside she allowed the girl to enter before locking it once again.

When the door opened the Headmistress framed in the doorway, Penny gave an apologetic smile. Well it was more of a grimace then a smile. She hated being late. "I'm sorry Ma'am. I had ta go to tha nurse. Headache."
She held out her note like it was a peace offering. Thankfully she hadn't said anything about loosing points. Yet. The Ravenclaw stepped into the room and slumped into the nearest desk. It was toward the back but she thought it best to jump into the class as soon as possible given her disgraceful entrance.
Then she noticed the notebooks and pencils at the front. Quickly she walked up and grabbed a light purple notebook and a matching pencil. Then darted back to her seat looking as studious as she could manage.
Nodding, Stef took the note and turned back to her desk placing it on the desk. "I was just asking the class if anyone had taken Arithmancy before. So you haven't missed anything." she said gently turning back to the class watching the girl move to one of the seats with a notebook and pencil.

Lexi's blue eyes widened slightly as Professor Gerlovich actually closed and locked the door practically behind her, but she still managed a smile at the greeting. Apparently she hadn't been late after all, or at least not enough to irritate the professor. She certainly wasn't as late as anyone else at the school, it seemed, and now she had her shiny new notebook and pencil to distract her.
She'd been about to answer the question that had been posed when there had been a knock on the door, but as that happened, she lowered the hand she'd been politely about to raise to let another student gain entrance. At least now she wasn't the oldest student there, because that had been a weird feeling. However, once it seemed they were all settled, the hand raised again. "Professor Gerlovich? I took Arithmancy last term, but before that I just was taught whatever my parents could help me with while I was at home," she offered. And in that respect, it had mostly been Mama teaching her, since Papa was usually distracted with work and being way too protective of her.
Looking around the room her eyes paused on the fourth year, as she spoke. Nodding, she gave her a smile. "Wonderful!" At least one had some knowledge in the class! "Before I forget if I could have you state your name and what year you are in, when answering a question, I would be very thankful to you. You only need to state it once."
"This may be just a refresher for you then, if you know some of the basics." she added nodding to the fourth year. "Does anyone know what Arithmancy is? Or even what the word means?"
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Sigh. Arithmancy had to be her least favorite class. Filled with so many boring numbers and they didn't even used their wands! Ashlyn, not completely awake, slowly trudged up the stairs and through the corridor, heading towards the classroom. That's weird, she thought as she came to the door. Usually the doors were kept open until class started, or so she thought she remembered. Well, whatever... With another annoyed sigh, the 4th year put her hand on thye door handle and pulled... but the door didn't move. Puzzled, Ashlyn stood for a moment and just stared at the door, wondering first if she had gotten the room number wrong, then, after deciding that yes she was in the right place, simply thpught of turning around to back to her dorm room and back to bed.
But, remembering that the Headmistress taught this class and figuring that the goody-goody would probably owl a note home to her parents if she skipped, she decided against leaving. Raising her fist, she gave the door a good knock and called out, "Hello?" just to be sure class really was in that room.
Merlin! Hearing another voice muffled coming from the other side of the door, Stefanie closed her eyes momentarily. Walking over to the door, she tapped it and opened it. Was class ever going to really begin? Looking down at the girl that stood there, she raised her eyebrow. "I see we have someone who can answer the question I just asked."
Opening the door wider so the girl could enter, Stef kept the frown on her face, but the corners of her mouth kept twitching. Having forgotten to shut the door behind the girl she moved back to the front of the room. "Get yourself any supplies you need from the desk, and find a seat." she said firmly but her lips kept quirking.
It amused her how she'd started with a small class, but it kept growing by the minute. "The question for you, is what is Arithmancy or the meaning behind the word?"
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Ashlyn's eyes widened slightly as the door suddenly opened and the Headmistress stood before her. Ohhhh, she didn't look too happy... The Slytherin girl managed an apologetic smile and said, "So sorry to be late Headmistress..." Uh, what? Answer the question? The fourth year's face fell. The one who only spoke in class when absolutely necessary now was expected to answer questions before she even entered... sigh.
Ashlyn followed the Headmistress into the room and took a pretty pink notebook and matching pencil from the desk. At least she didn't mention taking points for being late. That was a relief, although she was ready to try to talk her way out of it.
She took a seat near the door then looked up as the Headmistress asked the question. Oh right, she did say there was a question to be answered and it was directed to her. Arithmancy? Basically to Ashlyn it meant a bunch of boring numbers but this being her second year in the class she was pretty sure she had at least a vague idea of the answer. "I believe it's a form of divination using numbers."
Returning to the front of the room, Stef leaned against the desk as the girl walked to her seat. Nodding as the girl spoke, "It is, however, it does not tell the future, because the future can change, nothing is really set in stone as to what will happen." Looking over the class, she went a step further "Does anyone know what two words the word Arithmancy is broken down into? Remember to state your name and year if you haven't already done so."
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Lexi had grinned a little as Professor Gerlovich had responded to her statement about having learned a bit about the subject of Arithmancy. She'd just been being honest, but at least it seemed to have made the professor happy that somebody might at least not be starting from the beginning. And she'd started to raise her hand again at the first question, only to lower it again as a late arrival interrupted the class an d ended up fielding the question as a default. Hmm, a Slytherin, she thought, noticing the other girl seemed around her own age.
But her hand shot up again enthusiastically as another question was asked. The profesor hardly was likely to know where she'd grown up, but the question was perfect for her. "Alexandra Donovan, Professor Gerlovich. Fourth year Gryffindor," she remembered to say before blurting out the answer. "And the word Arithmancy is derived from the Greek words arithmos and manteia, meaning 'number' and 'divination respectively." He rgrandparents wouldn't forgive her if they knew she didn't remember the language from back home. Well, home when she'd lived back in Mykonos. Either way, she'd always liked the language, even after she'd come back here to England.
Her eyes flickering away from the girl who'd just sat down again, as the Gryffindor girl spoke. "Very good Alexandra, two points to you for the defining the two parts and one point for the origin as well." Flicking her wand to the board the words "The Core Numbers" appeared.
"What are the four core numbers in Arithmancy? Anyone?" she asked turning back to the class. "If you aren't sure, open your books to chapters 5-8."
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Ashlyn glanced over at the Gryffindor girl as she answered the next question - and in Greek at that - the looked back up at the professor. Points for the answer? But she didn't get points for her answer when she came in... but she also didn't get points taken for being late so she wasn't going to press the issue.
Pursing her lips slightly, the Slytherin girl watched the board as the words appeared. From taking the class the year before, she remembered that one of the core numbers had something to do with her birthday and the rest had to do with her name... but what were they called again? That fact escaped her so she turned to the chapters in the book mentioned by the professor. Normally she didn't like to volunteer in class, but she seemed to remember Slytherin was a bit behind in points and if there were points to be earned she'd do her part.
Ah, there it was. Flipping through the chapters, Ashlyn raised her hand and said, "Life Path, Expression, Heart's Desire, and Personality numbers."
Looking up as the slytherin raised her hand, "Yes...ms..." Prompting for the girl's name, so she'd be able to try and remember it, "Very good, four points to you." She added with a smile. She'd not missed seeing her look for the answer, but to Stef that didn't matter, the girl was willing to look for an answer and not just pass answering, because she didn't know it.
"Today we're going to learn about the Life path and Expression Numbers. Let's start with the Life Path number." Flicking her wand towards the board again the next set of words appeared, as well as a table. "Can I have a volunteer to fill in the table?"
Not missing the glance that the Slytherin girl who had shown up to the lesson late had given her, Lexi let her answer the question. It really wasn't that important anyhow, since it was just another basic Arithmancy question that she'd learned previously, and didn't have that connection to her heritage that the first question had had. Plus, if earning a few points made the girl feel better about being late...
She'd raised her hand again as the request for a volunteer was made, though. She wasn't against earning points herself, after all, and she knew her father would like it if she made the headmistress like her, even just academically. "I can fill the chart in for you," she offered, before approaching the board quietly. She figured she needn't re-introduce herself, after all, before she filled in the chart as requested.

Nodding as Alexandra agreed and stood up heading towards the board. Watching as the girl filled it in quickly and precisely she smiled "Three points, well done." Turning back to face the class as the girl took her seat again, she flicked her wand and the words Life Path Number moved up a little and became more bold.
"Ok, your life path number is about you, and what you truly are. What it is that your soul depends upon. Who can tell me how to find that number? Anyone?" she asked with a gentle smile. Soon the actual class work would start no more answering only questions.
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Oops, she had totally forgotten to give her name.. and right after she was prompted to do so! Oh, well... "Ashlyn Montague, ma'am," she quickly replied. And thanks for the points, teehee! He expression of delight turned into one of mild confusion, however, whe the discussion turned to Life Path numbers. She had thought that that was the one based on her birthdate.... so why did they need that letter table thingie? There weren't letters involved in her birthdate so much...
She watched the Gryffindor girl sit back down, then she looked back up at the Headmistress. When no one else volunteered an answer, she reluctanly raised her hand, mostly because she was really confused about the answer and needed clarification. Especially if she had any hope to pass the class at all. "Isn't the Life Path Number found by adding the numbers of your birthday together, then reducing them into one small number?" She worded it more as a question because after the letters were put on the board she just wasn't sure anymore.
Turning after tapping the board one last time, she faced the classroom. "Now once you have simplified it and added the last digits together, you may still have double digits. Just continue to simplify til there's only one digit.
"Professor Snape's Life Path Number is 8, according to this method. What does the book tell us about his Life Path Number?" Leaning against the edge of the desk, Stef placed her wand beside her.

I'm gonna end class, nobody's posting so we'll just finish this up.
Watching as the students finished up their work, Stef flicked her wand and in the middle of the board their homework assignment appeared. "Make sure to take down your homework assignment. Class is dismissed!"
