Our common room is round, earthy and low-ceilinged; it always feels sunny, and its circular windows have a view of rippling grass and dandelions.
There is a lot of burnished copper about the place, and many plants, which either hang from the ceiling or sit on the windowsills. The Head of Herbology brings the most interesting specimens (some of which dance and talk) to decorate our room – one reason why Hufflepuffs are often very good at Herbology. Our overstuffed sofas and chairs are upholstered in yellow and black, and our dormitories are reached through round doors in the walls of the common room.
Jessa walked in, still upset about that night. Her hair was messy, though, before coming here, she rinsed her hair out in the bathroom. She plopped down on a chair, in front of the roaring fireplace. "Phew, what a night." She whispered to herself. She felt bad, too. She made herself look like a jerk in front of everyone, including Eric. She didn't know why she liked him, she just did. Jessa immediately scolded herself for that, she was never going to get someone like Eric. Yes, she may be the Minister's daughter...so that would make her popular among the men, but she wanted someone who understood her life. Also, to be able to live a more normal life.
Eric and Jessa He's the head boy, She's the Minister's daughter. Can you say "Perfect Couple"?
Rolling out from the barrel in the wall from the boy's dorm and standing up like a rehearsed move, Eric grinned and then sighed happily. He'd missed this place. He saw Jessa sitting by the fire, looking disheveled. Sitting on a chair that he'd pulled from the table, he looked at her. "You okay?" he asked, looking at her curiously.
Jessa jumped at Eric's voice. She sighed when he sat down. Great, she thought, Now he's torturing me. She smiled slightly. "Yeah, I guess." She said, shrugging. "Does everyone think I'm a jerk because of tonight?" She asked, trying hard not to cry in front of him.

"Sorry." He apologised softly as he realised he'd made her jump and then frowned at her response. I guess seemed pretty vague. Something was wrong. Then a grin broke over his face "No, I found it funny." he put his arms on his legs and leant forward slightly. "I think everyone thinks it was just a spur of the moment slip of the tongue." he nodded, assuring her. "Don't worry about it."
Jessa smiled, "It's okay." She replied, relaxing when he actually sat down. She felt safer around him. Maybe it was because she liked him. Who knows. "Well, I guess it good to know everyone thought it was funny." She said, not feeling a little better, until he spoke again. "So, people won't be mad at me?" She asked, looking as though tears would stream out of her eyes at any second. I don't want people to be mad at me..." She started, trailing off for a moment. "Especially you." She said, blushing slightly.

Smiling at her as she seemed to relax, he waited to see her reaction to what he'd said. Then he shook his head "Nope, I don't think so." Oh, gosh. She looked like she was going to cry! WHATDIDHEDO?! EHHH. He was just about to get up to comfort her, but then he froze. Why especially him? Looking straight into her face, he saw the blush and tilted his head slightly. He was a little confused.
"Oh, well, I'm not mad at you." he assured her again before getting up and sitting on the edge of her chair and hugging her comfortingly whilst staring up at Helga Hufflepuff who was watching them. She was way too nosey.
Jessa managed a small grin. "Good, I don't like that..I'm not always like that, just if someone got me extremely mad, like tonight." She shrugged. She looked at his confused face and blushed even more. She said that OUT LOUD! "Erm, just...pretend like you didn't hear that." She said, hugging him back, she wanted to stay like that. But there was NO WAY Eric, a SIXTH year, would be with someone like Jessa, a THIRD year. Not to mention he was HEAD BOY! When they seperated from the hug she looked at him and grinned slightly, blushing more. "Unless...you didn't mind what I had said.." She really wanted him to like her!

"Yeah, I think we all gathered that you were pretty mad." he nodded. When she blushed even more, Eric tilted his head and raised an eyebrow curiously. Hmm. Still hugging her because she hadn't let go yet, he hoped she wouldn't cry. He wouldn't know what to do if she did. But as she pulled away, he looked at her and smiled before shaking his head "Why should I mind?" Obviously you wouldn't want your friend to be mad at you. That's what they were. Friends. Right? "I totally get the irritation of having your hair messed up." he nodded warmly. He KNEW girls hated having their hair messed up, he just didn't get why.
Jessa smiled. "I hope so." She said. Well, with Eric's expression changing, she realized he could be figuring it out. If he did, Jessa would freak out. "I don't know. Just, it sounded....mysterious...." She said, meaning I hope you don't find out I like you. She couldn't help but laugh at his knowledge of girls and their hair. "And how would you know this, silly?" She nudged him.

As she smiled, a small smile appeared on his face. At least now she was happier. "I dunno, I mean..you don't want your friends to be mad at you, especially someone who's going to be spending so much time around you." he nodded, explaining his reasoning. Hopefully that would settle her to know what he was thinking.
"Well, spending five years here already and going onto my sixth, I've seen girls freak about their hair, complain about their hair, hide it on a bad day, start crying if someone says something bad.. I kinda guessed that girls hair means a lot to them." he nodded, smiling at her nudge.
Jessa laughed, "I see, so you're still going to be spending time with me?" She smiled, liking the idea of spending a lot of time with Eric. That would be fun. She moved to a couch, hoping Eric would sit next to her. She patted the seat. "Come on." She said. Jessa nodded at Eric's statement, "This is true, girls do like our hair being just right." She said. "Every once in a while, I don't mind messy hair, sometimes it looks good."

"Of course." Eric looked at her strangely. "Why WOULDN'T I?" he asked, frowning as his eyes followed her to the couch. When she patted the seat next to her, he rose and crossed to the couch to sit next to her. "Really? I've heard girls complain about messy hair, but I've never heard anyone say they liked it. He pulled a face as he contemplated how strange girls were. So complicated. "Have you ever woken up with messy hair and left the dorm looking like that?" he asked curiously.
Jessa laughed at Eric, he was so silly. "I don't know, maybe it's because I'm three years younger than you." She said, pointing out the obvious. Most older guys didn't like hanging out with younger girls. And well, Jessa was a younger girl and Eric was older. She almost started to blush when Eric sat down next to him. She almost started flipping out, actually. "Well, no. I'd brush it out and such. Can't get hair like this easily." She said, pointing at her ratted hair. She laughed, realizing that her hair was a mess, at least all the food was out of it. She inched a little closer to Eric. "I suppose you don't mind hanging out with a younger girl, do you?"

"So?" he shrugged, looking at her. Why did that even matter? As long as they were friends, he'd hang around with her. Leaning back against the couch, he looked at her as she explained. "Ohh, so it's kind of like..an organized messy?" he asked, completely oblivious to any inner dilemma she was having right now. When she moved closer, his eyes widened slightly, but and he shook his head in answer to her. "Nope. I don't mind at all." he stared into the fire, wondering why she was asking why he wanted to hang around with her.
Jessa laughed, "No, well, yes. I suppose. I'm a little confused now." She said, laughing harder. Jessa looked at Eric when his eyes widened. "Okay, I just didn't think a guy like you would want to hang out with a girl like me..." She said, looking at the fire as well...wishing it was a bigger fire. Maybe they could have s'mores. That was pretty much the only muggle thing she knew of.

Laughing with her as she got confused, Eric leant back against the couch. "Never mind." he grinned, taking a deep breath to calm himself. "A guy like me..?" he looked at her as she stared into the fire. She was strange, cryptic. Eric just couldn't work out what she was hiding. Hmm. "What do you mean, Jessa?" he asked, glancing at the fire too before looking back at her, waiting for a response that would hopefully be less cryptic.
Jessa smiled. "Okay." She said. Then, Jessa didn't know what to do. He wanted to know! But, She thought, What if I make a fool of myself by telling him? I would never live that down. She looked at Eric. "Do you really want to know?" She asked, hopefully this didn't become a bad thing.

Nodding in response to Jessa, Eric waited for a reply. He really didn't know what she was talking about. Feeling the warmth from the fire becoming a little unbearable, he shifted slightly. Hopefully she wouldn't think he was uncomfortable. He didn't want to upset her.
Jessa watched as all Eric did was nod. Well, there was no getting out of this one. She took a deep breath and looked right at Eric. "Well, it's just...I like you, and, I didn't think an awesome guy like you would like a little, sometimes snobby girl like me." She said, blushing. This was not going to end well, she thought. Or maybe it would end perfectly. Jessa liked the second choice. She looked at Eric for his response.

Smiling at her as she took a deep breath, Eric waited. Then he just stared. She. Liked. Him?! An awesome guy like him? Sometimes snobby girl like her? WHOA. His head felt like it was going to explode. Shifting again and closing his eyes, Eric thought it through for a second. So she liked him, which was why she'd been acting strange. Tick. Awesome guy like him, he didn't know WHERE she'd got that from. Cross. Random snobbiness, well, he hadn't seen any of that yet, so he totally didn't know what she was talking about. Cross.
"So, starting from the first part. You like me?" he looked at her blushed face. "Why?" he totally didn't understand it. "Secondly, I dunno how you came to the conclusion that I'm awesome, but yeah.." he trailed off, pondering. "And I totally don't understand why you think you're snobby, 'cause you're not." he smiled at her and leant closer to her slightly, looking into her eyes. Hesitant, 'cause he'd never been in this situation, Eric searched her eyes.
Jessa watched as Eric tried to process it all. "Well, you were really nice to me at dinner, and well...you said you;d protect me! Which, what 13 year old girl wouldn't like you for that?!" She said, throwing her hands up. "But, tonight, you were so nice and kind and well, you don't hate me, so it's awesome." She blushed more, he said she wasn't snobby. Jessa almost pulled away when he lent closer, but didn't. "So.." She started. "You don't hate me...then what..?'' She asked, a little confused now herself.
Eric and Jessa He's the head boy, She's the Minister's daughter. Can you say "Perfect Couple"?
Well, he hadn't been really nice to her, he was just being himself. And it was his job to protect her, though a nice job. "I suppose.." he agreed, smiling at her defensive pose. Again, with the niceness? He was just being himself. "Well, why would I hate you?" he shook his head again, smiling. When she spoke, he pulled away a little again. "I don't hate you, no." he looked at her, speaking softly. Then he shook his head. She was three years younger than him. She was still young. Leaning back against the sofa, he stared into the fire with his elbow on the arm of the chair and his palm holding up his chin. "I'm definitely don't hate you." he repeated himself.
Jessa shrugged. "Beccause, as much as you don't want to admit it. I do act like a snob. I might not all the time, but I do. I'm the Minister's daughter! I get whatever I want." She threw her hands up and looked at Eric as he leant against the sofa. Then her heart couldn't help but melt. He didn't hate her! She almost did a happy dance but didn't, especially when Eric repeated himself. She looked at him, a confused look on her eyes. "Well," Jessa started. "If you don't hate me...then what do you think of me??" She asked, hoping not to look foolish.

"I'm not denying it for my own benefit. I'm denying it because I've seen no snobbishness yet." he looked at her before shrugging "So? Just means you're lucky." Watching her hands, he smiled a little amusedly. She was funny. But then she asked a question that he didn't even know the answer to. "I.." he started before becoming hesitant. "I.." he stuttered. "I don't know.." he buried his face into his hands and shook his head confusedly. "I just need some time to think about it.." he smiled at her hopefully. Would she understand?
