Upon entering the office you notice a large circular room with lots of windows, and portraits of the previous headmaster's and headmistress's from previous terms within Hogwarts. Along one wall is a large bookcase that goes all the way to the high ceiling. Behind Stef's desk is the sorting hat and beside that is Gryffindor's sword that is kept in a glass case. Along another wall is a large fireplace that is also connected to the floo network, for whenever it is needed.
On the desk is a picture of her and Warren on the beach in the Caribbean from the summer previous. Other then that there isn't much on the desk, but a quill, parchment and ink pot for whenever she might need them. She's pretty neat, and doesn't leave much lying around. In the center of the room is a nice sitting area, in which Stef prefers to sit and enjoy her company. It has some nice squashy chairs and couches all surrounding a soft, fuzzy rug, and in the very center is an ornate wooden table with a bowl of candied fruit in the center.
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Merlin, his reaction said just about what her fear was. Gulping she nodded "yes" she whispered. Oh, no this was really...Merlin....this was just not what she'd expected to have as birthday gift this year. It's like Happy Birthday, you're PREGNANT! No....Merlin, now what was she to do...say...anything? If she knew that that would be an issue, she would have soooooooooooooo done something long ago, but since she'd been told this couldn't happen, why would she worry????
Standing up she walked over to the window that looked out over the lake. As an owl flew past the window, she sighed. What was he going to do...or say? She knew he didn't want a child, and now... She was just so confused and she didn't have any clue what to say.
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Warren watched her reaction trying to judge how she was feeling and slightly amused that she was freaking out way more than he was. Watching her get up and move to the window he pursed his lips and tossed the paper onto the couch. He stood up and walked over to her. "Well not the ideal time I must admit since we aren't married yet but..." he slipped his arms around her waist and stood behind her, "It will be alright."
Damn right. It would be fine. He'd just have to...learn some patience. Oi. He sighed and leaned his head against the back of hers. "You do know this doesn't get you out of going to see the healer right?"
Feeling way more comforted now that he was there with his arms around her, her hands moved over his. "I just never expected..." leaving it at that, if he was ok with it, then she certainly was!
Well, she'd hoped, that she could avoid that part of it, but knew very well now she couldn't. "I only hoped." she said with a grin, turning around in his arms to face him. Her eyes searched his, not as nervous now, it hadn't fully sunk in yet, but she was relieved that he had taken it well. "Suppose that means I should go down there in the morning, hmm?"
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
"You and me both." Really? HIM? A FATHER?! Oiiiiiiiiii. He sighed and looked out the window. Really he was surprised he wasn't ranting and raving or something but...in retrospect if he had to have a baby with anyone he'd want it to be Stefanie. He looked down at her as she turned around in his arms. Seeing her grin he smiled at her and leaned his forehead against hers. "I think that means you should go down in the morning, yes."
Giving her a smirk he sighed and leaned back up. Him a father.... That would take some getting used to. "Think I could be a good dad?" Oiiiiii that was a slew of other issues. "Because my dad was suuuuuuuuch a good one," he said sarcastically and let her go. He ran a hand over his short hair and turned walking toward the couch.
Seeing his smile quieted her even more. Maybe this could be fun. She'd never thought this day would ever come, and now that it had she was terrified! But yet she'd always wanted a baby, and when she'd been told she never could, she was heart broken. Even though she'd believed she'd never find someone she'd feel that way about again, she'd still been heart broken, that she never could have a baby. Now, she could and was? Woah, it was just a total surprise! Nodding a nervous smile appeared on her face, "I"ll do that, and hopefully Charlotte will agree to keep it quiet, at least for this week." Knowing how fast rumors spread in the school, she could only hope a week. She couldn't imagine it'd last long, once she started showing. Merlin...
Seeing the smirk, she nearly giggled. His reaction was definitely unexpected! Her eyes softened as he spoke though. "I think that would make you an even better dad." she said softly, following him to the couch this time. "And somehow I hope it's a girl, I don't think a boy would be all that right for you." she teased.

Somehow Stef needing to see the healer seemed a smaller problem as it finally sunk it that HE was going to be a DAD. And her reassurance that he'd be an even better dad because of what his own father had lacked didn't work. There was a reason he hadn't bothered having any before. He lacked the patience, he found them annoying, and more than once he'd wished he could bodily harm the wretched ones here. This was nothing but a disaster.
Sitting down on the couch he picked up his glass and downed the rest of what was in there. "I don't know Stef.... I've never wanted kids before because I'm afraid that I'd be like him. Treat my kids the same way he treated me...." OI! It was too much.
"Let's go eat something," he said suddenly wanting very much to get off of this topic. When she saw the healer and had it confirmed then...he'd deal with his own issues.
Hearing his fears, she sat down next to him. She just watched him silently. She knew nothing she said would help ease his mind, and didn't want to muddle it even more. She knew he'd eventually work it out himself. Either work harder or talk it out, with her or someone else he knew and trusted. And as long as a person who's initials were B.L. didn't find out any time soon, he'd be even happier she was sure.
At his suggestion of getting something to eat, she smiled, "Sounds good to me." she replied, knowing full well he just wanted to change the subject.

Throwing open the door to her quarters, Stef shut the door behind her firmly. Pressing her head against it she snapped her fingers and flames appeared in the fireplace warming the room. She really REALLY hated thestrals. She would leave that thestral to the CoMC professor and maybe...Adam. Well at least until tomorrow.
Her teeth chattered still as she peeled off the robes that were now clinging to her. Tossing them in the corner for right then, she started some tea for herself. Thinking back to the pitch she wondered what had set off Warren. Well Becca obviously, but what had she said? She'd said she'd ask about the baby but would that really set him off that bad???
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Either he was getting out of shape or she was getting faster. Regardless, he managed to get to her office well after her and came across her door...which was very much closed. "Stefanie! Are you in there? Open up the door. Don't make me force it open. I'm freezing! Let me in!" He reached out to grab the handle and frowned. It was open. Duh. He opened the door and peered in and saw her fussing about.
Shutting the door behind him he ran his hands threw his soaked hair and looked down at his soaked shirt. No help for that at least. "Stefanie? Why did you run off like that?" Had she heard what they had been talking about?
Changing into a sweater she heard Warren calling through the door, she lifted her eyebrow at him. Didn't he know how to open the door himself? Shaking her head she shivered again changing out of her pants into some lounging ones. Ugh, she just couldn't warm up. Looking over at the door again she was about to wonder if the lock had fallen when Warren finally appeared.
"Because it's colder then..." what was colder, her teeth chattering again, she couldn't think of anything "Because I was freezing!" she stated shrugging. Looking over at him, she loved the look of him with his shirt sticking to him and fully showing his nice body. But her face sure didn't show it, she still had irritation on her face and she was still shivering with cold, as she turned towards the tea wishing it was ready.
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Because she was freezing? How come her expression and tone said otherwise. Sighing he ran his hand through his hair again trying to get the water off before walking over to her. "Of all the people in this place you can not lie to me. I can tell you are irritated so spit it out." He crossed his arms not willing to give away anything just in case she hadn't heard but wanting to know what was bothering her at the same time. He walked around to the side where the tea was and into her line of sight and frowned. "I'm serious. Stop evading."
No kidding, he always knew when she was evading, lying or keeping something from him. It's how he knew her so well! Shouldn't she be asking the same thing though? Why was it that he had been pointing a wand at Becca earlier? Lifting her eyebrow at him as he folded his arms standing right next to the tea. "A thestral escaped." there was that what he wanted to know? She answered, didn't give detail but figured he'd be able to figure a little of it.
Pouring herself some tea, she took a sip, wincing at the temperature but managing to swallow it anyway. Shivering again she moved over to the couch. "And what about you? Why were you pointing your wand at Mrs. Lee?"
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
A thestral? She was irritated over a bloody thestral? That was it? He looked at her with a raised eyebrow and when she asked her question knew she hadn't heard a word of what happened. He should be relieved right? Then why wasn't he....
"We had a misunderstanding," he said vaguely following her over and sitting in front of the fire. He pulled his shirt over his head and tossed it on the table before looking at Stefanie. "She seems to think she knows all about me and she doesn't. And I don't appreciate it." Simply put in a way.
As he explained about Becca, she rolled her eyes before taking another sip. Merlin, did he think she believed that? Mmmm, very nice, she thought as he took off his shirt. NO! Stop it, this isn't about his wet skin on his now bare chest. It was about him being irritated to the point of taking out his wand.
Lifting her eyebrow once again at him she pulled the blanket off the back of the couch and pulled it over her, shivering some more. "Do you really think I was born yesterday. Spill it." she said firmly, "No lies, no evading. And yes I'm serious." HA there right back at him.
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Warren's eyebrows raised and a small smirk came to his lips as he got to meet feisty Stef for the first time in awhile. "And if I don't spill?" Eh what harm would it do to push. Not to mention it might make him meet angry Stef whom he was dying to meet. He always had a thing for feisty women after all. He leaned back in his chair casually and crossed his arms. That's right. Not getting a thing out of him until he wanted.
"If you don't spill?" Seriously he was not understanding how irritated she was already? THESTRALS WERE EVIL!!! Narrowing her eyes just by him evading telling her what was happening told her something had happened down there, and that made her really want to know what happened. Because somehow she didn't think Becca would tell her that either.
"How about throwing you from my quarters?" she asked pointedly her eyes narrowing even more. Yep, she'd gone there. Irritated woman...make that irritated pregnant woman versus evil thestral equals a woman that wants some answers. Like NOW!
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Oh he was getting to her. Narrowed eyes...threatening to kick him out. Hmm... Should he push more or not was the question. He had no doubt she'd kick him out but it wasn't nearly feisty enough that was passive aggressive. Putting his feet up on the table he made himself comfortable and shook his head. "Wouldn't be the first time I've been kicked out of somewhere and sleeping in my office doesn't bother me so much so....going to have to try harder." Meh why not? He didn't exactly want to talk about it anyway might as well up the ante if he's going to be delving into that emotional cesspool with her.
Downing the last of the tea in her cup she pushed off the blanket to stand up. "That's what you want me to do isn't it?" she asked rolling her eyes before walking back over to the tea she'd made. Figures, he'd been trying to push her to get mad in order to get the subject avoided. Right? Right. "You know I learned quite a few hexes over the years and would prefer not to use any of them."
Taking her wand out as she came back with her tea, she sat back down putting the cup on the table and covering herself back up. Pointing her wand directly at him, she raised her eyebrow her lips pursed. "So what did you do?" she asked pointedly staring him down.
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Warren watched her without answering her question in anyway as she got up and came back wand drawn. Was she serious? HA! He smirked and shook his head taking out his own wand. "Are you sure you want to go down that road? I have ten galleons that says otherwise." He had been an Auror for more than twenty years. In fact he'd only lost a duel once and that was with... His smirk fell quickly as he remembered the last woman he dueled and the smirk turn to a wince of pain at that particular memory. His hand moved over to the scar on his side without even thinking and he shifted in his seat.
"Why must you assume it is I who did something?" he said without any humor as he tried to regain himself and push the thoughts away. "She after all did hit me which is why I drew on her."
Oh for the love of Merlin. Yawning she finally was starting to warm up at least a little. "Seriously we're gonna go back to the auror thing?" she asked with irritation in her voice. It always went back to that! She loved him for everything that formed him, but for some reason every arguement went back to being an auror. And after the thestral she was ready to just hex something if he either didn't leave or just tell her what he did!
"Oh, really." she said with a bored tone of voice. "So that's why you smell like firewhiskey again." she asked her eyes moving towards the ceiling. Yep of course, that's what it was. A pregnant woman hit him. SNORT! Yeah right.
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Well at least she didn't catch his change. Best not to travel down that road. Crossing his feet he looked at her and frowned. "What does me having been an Auror have anything to do with you being able to out duel me? I didn't even say anything about it so it's you who brought it up. So don't get pissy at me over something I didn't say." There we go. Pick a fight completely away from what she wanted to discuss. Sounded like a brilliant idea.
"I have you know I smell like firewhiskey because she threw the it at me. I haven't even had a drop so stop trying to start in on my drinking habits." He dropped his feet to the ground and stood up. "I can't do this right now," he said stretching his neck and grabbing his shirt.
He hadn't started it? "Ok, if you didn't start it, then what did you mean you have 10 galleons that say otherwise?" she asked eyeing him. Hmmm? She knew very well that was what he was going on about, even if he denied it now or made up something!
Oh so now that she was actually in the mood for a good argument he was gonna leave? Pfft, figures that was him all the way wasn't it? "Now why that don't surprise me?" she muttered allowed. "Something set you off, and now you're off because I want to know what it was. And you don't want to tell me." Sitting back she put her wand on the table grabbing her mug again. She was growing tired of the arguing, and knew he wasn't going to say anything anyway, because he never did. "Whatever." she said rolling her eyes as he grabbed his shirt, irritated that once again he was avoiding whatever it was that was bugging him.
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Hearing her question he looked at her and shrugged, "I could out duel you any time sweetheart." OI! Dueling why can't he just leave well enough alone! He glanced down at the nice little scar Alexa had left on his right side and frowned. He had to get out of here and quick. Maybe see if he can go bribe some elves for firewhiskey.
Her mocking question about him leaving made him stop and work his jaw. "You don't want to hear what I have to say." He turned toward her slowly and threw the shirt back on the table. "Alright fine! You want to know fine. I've been thinking about Alexa. About how though I love you it doesn't even come close to the raw passion we had. About how I know she wanted to have kids and after I stopped hearing from her I lost all interest. That a part of me wonders if she's still around like I was for her all those years ago." Well she had to push so she got it all. Maybe it'd teach her not to push him any more. He looked at her and swallowed. "I'm trying. But you have to understand we were together for...well as long as I was an Auror. I miss the arguments we used to have constantly. One because I never had to worry about her being able to take care of herself but also because it was kind of satisfying having someone that could actually beat me." His finger found the scar on his side and he sighed. The reminder he'll never be able to get rid of but would he really want to? Looking at her he swallowed, "I'm sorry." Talk about word vomit. He didn't even want to think how much that would hurt her.
Ok, she'd been wrong. She'd figured it was the auror stuff like it always was. That shut her up, and she wasn't going to press the issue there. Nor bet the 10 galleons.
If that hadn't shut her up the next part certainly did the trick. Listening as he spoke about Alexa, she just looked down into her mug of tea, not saying a word. She'd wondered if she'd been on his mind lately a few times, but never asked, and eventually pushed the thought from her head. He'd told her a few things about the woman but she never knew that it had been like that. She didn't even know what to say and couldn't even look up, at that moment.
Perhaps that was another reason he didn't want a baby? Because it was something Alexa had wanted? "Maybe you need to find her?" she asked softly, glancing up at him but dropping her eyes back to her tea, left forgotten in her hands. If that's what...who made him happy, she wasn't going to stop him, she loved him.
But she wanted him happy, and that's all she cared about. "Maybe I've known this all along."
Til now I always got by on my own. I never really cared until I met you. alone And now it chills me to the bone. How do I get you?
Watching her intently he knew just how deeply he'd cut her but she wanted honesty and Merlin was he going to be honest. "I've tried. She has as much training as I do if she's alive and doesn't want to be found...she won't be found. But that's not the point!" He walked over to her and grabbed the cup setting it on the table.
"I push you because I know underneath all that passive aggressive timid act is someone who will call me on my stuff like you just did. I need that. I always have even growing up." He slipped his finger under her chin and tilted her head up to look at him. "Not just for my own sake either. It'll help if you want to stay headmistress.
"Do you know why Becca and I always fight so much? Because she is that type of personality and as much as it annoys me. And trust me how she does it annoys me greatly...it's also what I need at times and she knows it. I have a past that you would never want to hear all of I can guarantee you and she knows a good deal but not all of either."
He sighed and caressed her cheek. "I love you. I do. But I fell in love with the woman who wouldn't leave me alone at the house table that first day. I just need you to understand why I feel the way I do. Any sign of stability...makes me think the worst will come because in my life that's always what has happened."
