The Hogwarts kitchen is located directly under the Great Hall, down the same staircase that leads to the Hufflepuff Common Room. It contains four long tables identical to and directly below those in the Great Hall; food must simply be placed upon the tables in the kitchens, and it magically appears on the corresponding tables in the Great Hall above. The kitchens are staffed by over one hundred house-elves. Helga Hufflepuff brought the house-elves to work in the kitchens as a way of ensuring they could work without being abused.

"We have a portrait of Hufflepuff, but she just keeps an eye on the common room and people coming in and out." Eric nodded. "Oh, cool!" Staring at the ceiling, Eric wondered what it would be like to see a tiara glow to tell you someone was waiting to get in.
"Oh, go on." Eric looked at him, waiting for him to speak.

Hmmmm, "I wonder if the portrait would let ye know someone's out there if ye asked it te?" JD asked cocking his head to the side a little, before taking a bite of his sandwich he'd nearly forgotten about.
Chewing he laid his head back against his chair. "Well, I had words with me dad." Putting his plate with the sandwich only having one bite taken out on the table he pushed it away. He wasn't really hungry anymore, after his thoughts had turned to his dad. "He kicked me off the island and said I wasn't welcome back."
"Dunno. I'll ask when I go back." he grinned curiously before taking another bite of his sandwich too. Then he looked at JD as he spoke, it seemed, hesitantly. When he said he'd been kicked off the island and told he wasn't welcome, Eric chewed slowly, wondering what he could say. Swallowing, he sighed sympathetically. "I'm sorry, mate." It was sad. "Do you have anywhere to go?"

Shrugging, he leaned his head back against the chair more and looked up at the ceiling. "I'll just find a place in Diagon Alley now. Last two summers I stayed at the Leaky." Groaning he looked back down again and over at his friend, "That there's the very reason I hate having grown up as a muggle. Muggles that are supposed to be your family that throw you out because your a wizard."
Looking at JD, Eric sighed and shook his head "Orr..." he had a feeling JD knew what he was going to say. "You could..move into mine. You're highly talked about, and it's only 6 weeks over summer and holidays, not like it's forever." Eric smiled warmly at his friend.

His eyes widening as Eric spoke, he had an apprehensive look on his face. "Wouldn't yer parents mind though?" he asked softly his voice sounding hopeful. It was only six weeks...but if he could, he would be thrilled! "It is another mouth te feed, as they say. Though I will help with whatever they need help with."
Smiling at JD, Eric shook his head "No, man. They'd love to have you there, I'm sure." he tilted his head, watching JD's hopeful expression. "I'll owl them later on to ask." he shrugged at JD's offer. "I don't think we'd get a choice on whether we help out" he laughed. His parents had wrangled them to help out with the animals last time, they treated everyone who was in the house like family.
Food. Food? FOOD! Yum. Marco was hungry. Kind of, wait, yes he was. Maybe. What did it matter? He had heard that there was cake to be found in the kitchen and he was determined to have it. Cake was very yummy. Marco raced up the stairs from the dungeons where his common room was located and onto the kitchen level. He was almost stumped when he got to the portrait of the pear. He knew someone had told him how to open it when he had been in Diagon Alley? If he could only remember...
Oh yeah! Marco reached toward it and tickled the pear. It giggled and the painting swung open, revealing the kitchen. Marco loved kitchens, because they contained foods. And cake. Did he mention that he liked cake? Marco ran into the room and began opening the cupboards; he would search everywhere in the kitchen until he found his much coveted cake.
Jessabelle had walked into the kitchen, wearing her bunny slippers and PJ's under her Badger robes. The only reason for her robes being on was the fact that her jammies were full of bunnies (to match her slippers), and Jessa didn't want Eric or anyone else to see her while getting food. Walking into the kitchen, knowing or at least hoping that nobody would see her while she got some food. When Jessa skipped into the kitchen, she came to a halt, seeing a little boy with green robes, and she blinked. "Um...who are you?" She asked, looking at the little boy who was obviously a first year.
Eric and Jessa He's the head boy, She's the Minister's daughter. Can you say "Perfect Couple"?
Marco jumped when he heard the voice behind him. He was afraid that it might be a teacher and he would be in trouble, because he had kind of made a mess. As he looked in the cupboards he had taken out things to look behind them and kind of forgotten to put them back. Oh well, if anyone asked he would say it was like that when he got there. He would say it was a freak tornado inside; he was at a school for magic after all. Speaking of magic. Marco looked toward the voice and saw that a girl had come in; she had long curly light red hair that could almost be described as shiny. Her deep brown eyes seemed kind fierce at the same time. Marco gaped at her for a couple of seconds with his eyes wide and then composed himself, hoping she had not noticed. He did not want to make a fool of himself in front of a girl; especially not a girl as pretty as this one. "Hello," he managed to say.
Jessabelle watched as the little boy had just sat there and gaped at her. Why was he just staring at her? Jessa crossed her arms and began tapping her foot impatiently, so she wouldn't burst out laughing. "You did not answer my question, who are you?" She asked, still tapping her foot, which she felt the bunny ears on her slippers flop up and down and up and down...floppy floppy floppy...anyways...
Jessa had noticed that the kitchen was a mess. She looked around and shook her red curls. "And why is the kitchen a mess?" She asked, looking around as there was cupboards open and stuff was everywhere. She began to pick up what she could and put them away in the drawers and cupboards. Looking up she gave the boy an annoyed look, "Well are you going to help me?" She asked.
Eric and Jessa He's the head boy, She's the Minister's daughter. Can you say "Perfect Couple"?
Marco did not even know that she had asked him a question, he had been too focused on her face. He tried to push her pretty hair and eyes out of his mind, because she was a girl, and girls were icky. "My name is Marco," he said with his usual confidence. And it came accompanied with his normal mischievous smile. He noticed her robes and saw that she was a Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff was tied with them in the house point competition; they both had ten. Not for long; Slytherin would win, he was sure of it. Not stupid Pufflehuff.
"Um...well...it was um...a ghost." Yeah, because she was going to believe that. They actually had ghosts at Hogwarts though; he had seen one. He should have stuck with his original story about a tornado, though he did not think she would have believed that one either. "Fine," he said grudgingly. Marco piled up some pans and brought them all with him over to the cupboards. He stuffed them in there and closed the door as quick as he could so they would not all fall back out again. Okay, that worked. "Do you know where the cake is?" He was not going to leave without getting some cake.
Jessabelle couldn't help but laugh at him. This boy seemed a little too full of himself for being a firstie. "I'm Jessabelle Leroy, third year, Hufflepuff, Ministers daughter." She smirked, knowing how devious she was being. Looking at the door, she longed for Eric to walk through the door and make this less awkward.
She nodded, not believing a single word of it, silly first year, trying to pull a fast one on the Minister's daughter. "Yup, uh-huh. that's believable." She rolled her eyes. Throwing some more pots into a cupboard and sat on the floor. She looked over at the boy named Marco. "You know I don't care if you trashed the Kitchen, but the House Elves might, so try not to let it happen again, kay?" She said, looking at the kitchen they had just cleaned. Jessa crinkled her eyebrows at Marco. "Cake? Why are you looking for cake?" She asked, trying to remember if someone told her about cake.
Eric and Jessa He's the head boy, She's the Minister's daughter. Can you say "Perfect Couple"?
Jessabelle. Marco thought about it for a moment, then he decided that it suited her. It was unique. "Pleasure to meet you Jessabelle," he said dramatically, trying to act all grown up and stuff. She was a whole two years older than him, so he had to act older. Ministers daughter? "Wait, the Minister's daughter is magical?" Hum, he had not known they. He supposed it would not be common knowledge. "Wait, I thought the Minister's daughter was six, and named Abbigail." Were they talking about the same Minister? They must be; how many ministers were there?
She was being sarcastic, wasn't she? He knew she was, but he hoped she was not because he didn't want to get in trouble for making a mess of the kitchens. "Evles? There are elves here? All year? They don't just bring presents at Christmas?" Were they Santa's spies? Sent to make sure they were all behaving? Oh no. He was getting coal in his stocking that year for sure.
Marco put his hands on his hips and looked at her. He gave her a 'look.' Not just a loot, but a 'look.' A 'LOOK' I TELL YOU! "Why wouldn't I be looking for cake?" It was a valid argument; cake was delicious.
She heard the buzz of noise being made outside their hidey hole and peered out to investigate, hoping it wasn't Peeves again. "STUDENTSIES!" she squeaked eying the mess mess all over the counters, and pouring from the shelves. Hurrying over she nearly tripped on her apron. Shooing them away from her cupboards she eyed the mess again. Shaking her head, she knew it was going to take hours to clean up. YAY!!!! She couldn't wait to get started.
Turning back towards the naughty students, she gave them both a look "Why does studentsies go in cupboards?"

Yawning JD strolled through the doorway of the kitchens. He'd been snacky for some caramel popcorn and thought he'd go down and see if Blinky was around. Blinky made the best popcorn ever! Heading for the cupboard that held the popcorn supplies he thought he'd get it out at le... His eyes widened at the mess that he saw around him.
He'd not even noticed the Slytherin or Jessa there with Calla. Uh oh...pausing before deciding whether to run or just see what happened, JD leaned back with his elbows on the counter to watch.
Jessabelle laughed at Marco. "Wrong Minister, I'm the daughter of the Minister of Magic." She kept laughing, the little boy totally had a crush on Jessa. She jumped at the squeak coming from a hole. Looking to the side she saw Calla the house elf. "Calla, don't worry, it wasn't me." She whispered to the house elf, and secretly pointed to the Slytherin who had been here first.
"Well obviously there are elves, but not the kind you're thinking of." Hmm, must be muggle-born, Jessa thought. "Did you just find out about magic, Marco?" She asked, wanting to know if she was right. She turned back to Calla, "Marco and I can help you clean it up, Calla." She smiled warmly at the house elf.
Looking at one of the counters, she spied blue robes. "Well, hello JD." She greeted with a smile. Then, Jessa looked down at her bunny slippers and the bunny PJ pants that peeked under her robes. Her face turned hot, and she couldn't help but blush.
Eric and Jessa He's the head boy, She's the Minister's daughter. Can you say "Perfect Couple"?
A Minister for Magic? Marco did not know they had one of those. Well, now he could add that to the list of magical things he had never heard of before. There was quite a long list. And then an elf walked in. At least, he thought it was an elf. It looked more like a huge chihuaua. And that was not what elves looked like. They were supposed to look like mini people with pointy ears in green outfits and a point hat. Who was this? Marco sent Jessabelle a glare for telling the elf thing that it was him. It had been, but Jessabelle was such a tattle tale. Humph.
"Uh...yes," he admitted. By just, he assumed she meant when he got his acceptance letter. His parents told him he was a wizard-well his dad did- and proved that it was true. Marco was having a hard time accepting it, but he figured being at a school for magic would help. He scowled when Jessabelle volunteered him to help clean up. "I already put some away," he grumbled under his breath. And then he saw the other boy that was in there, though he had no idea how long he had been in there for. "I'm Marco," he said, glad of a distraction, and an excuse not to clean up the pans.
Eyeing the boy that had been here before that was really smelly, she wrinkled her nose sniffing the air again. She didn't trust him, he'd smelled really bad the last time he'd come in and not even her cleaning took that smell away easily. Turning towards the girls whisper she shook her head, her ears bobbing up and down. "No, tattles, missy." she said sternly. Calla didn't like tattles, that was naughty and only started arguing. "No, no, no, Calla clean!" she said excitedly.
Grabbing a few pots off the floor she stuck one on each ear as she picked them up and grabbed a few pans for each hand heading back to the cupboard.

Seeing Calla's nose wrinkle, JD turned his face a little taking a sniff. Well he didn't smell the greatest, since his shower'd been that morning, but definitely wasn't as bad as last time, with the vinegar. Giving her a wry smile he hoped she wasn't about to get that cleaner out and start spraying him again!
His attention went back to Jessa and the boy who was called Marco. "Hello Jessa." A small smirk appeared as he took in her appearance, "Nice bunnies." he added with a chuckle in his voice. He was sure Eric probably hadn't seen those yet. "I'm JD." he replied to the boy. "Out for a snack?" he asked amusedly glancing over at the mess Calla had started cleaning up.
"Nice to meet you JD," Marco said to the boy. He glanced around guiltily at the pans left on the floor. The elf person had told him not to help, and he was not going to argue with that. "I was looking for some cake," he admitted. It was a kitchen, and what kitchen did not have cake? "Do you know where I can find some?" A sudden horrible thought struck him; what if there was not any cake? That would be horrible. He would have to find someone to make some for him. He had no idea how he could accomplish that...maybe a bribe would work.
Yawning Ivan walked down to the kitchens and opened the fridge. Why he was up he had no idea but here he was staring at an...empty fridge? What the? He caught sight of one of the house elves staring at him behind a counter and ducking out of the way. Great just bloody great. A house elf with a sense of humour just what he needed. He heard little feet scurry away and sighed. Well so much for that plan. Finding a chair he threw himself down in it and propped his feet up onto the table with a yawn. "What good are house elves if they don't serve you?" he muttered to no one as he stared at the wall.
Coming up to the kitchens, she wondered if maybe Ivan might be there this time around. She hadn't seen much of him lately, and kind of missed him...A LOT! Stepping through the doorway, TJ headed to the counter, peering over the side, where she normally found Calla. "Calla?" she called.
Startled she nearly flipped over the counter when she heard a voice from one of the chairs speak. "Ivan!" she gasped. She'd recognize the voice anywhere, but he'd certainly startled her!
"BLINKY!!!!" Calla cried running after him with a frying pan in hand. "What you do with the food!!!" She was gonna get that bad Blinky this time, they had no food to make for tomorrow!
Her hand raised with the pan in her hand still, her ears went back when she heard voices "Studentsies..." she gasped.
Ivan's eyes had just about dropped closed for good this time when he heard a familiar voice. Dropping his feet he looked around the chair to see TJ. "Why hello there stranger," he said with another yawn. His eyes caught sight of the elf with the frying pan and widened. "Now there's a sight you don't see every day." Though it kind of made him glad to know the food stealing elf would be punished. HA.
