Author Info:

Name/Nickname: Irish/Kait
Age:24

Character Info:

Name: Shane O'Seanaughsey (she prefers Shay, though)
Age: 15
Hobbies/Passions/Interests (no lists please) : Shay is still discovering what she's passionate about. The youngest of six, and all boys, she's spent a lot of her life overwhelmed by them. She hovers between a tomboy and wanting to be a little more feminine, so her interests tend to shift between athletics, sports, and running with 'the boys', and trying to develop other hobbies. Recently she's been starting to knit, needle point and braid, and Kerry has been teaching her to carve. Shay has kept up the Partridge-esq family tradition and plays the banjo, the oboe, the Irish flute, and Irish harp. She really loves animals and is considering a career as a magical-creature healer, or even a muggle vet. Shay prefers odd and unexpected things, despite her desire to be "normal", she likes doing needle point and knitting because no one would expect it of her, and choses obscure instruments to play. Anything that's off the beaten path is likely to snag her interest.

Physical Appearance: Shay's hair is lighter than her brothers, more of a strawberry blond. She wears her hair about shoulder length, but usually pulls it back. She's rather petite, about 5'3 with a willowy build. She dresses most often in muggle clothes, having grown up in a muggle family and prefers a layered look. She wears pants whenever she can. Her clothes tender to under emphasize what figure she has. She doesn't even own make-up.

Personality: Shay is still trying to figure herself out. She's both used to playing rough and tumble with her brothers, but is also used to be taken care of by them. They've been her main social group for most of her life, and although she may be fiery and sassy amongst her own kin, but around others she tends to get rather shy, feeling awkward and like she lacks in social graces. She's a tough little cookie though, and has the masculine habit of getting pissed, exchanging a few punches, then calling it good. She can also get real mouthy when angry. She's not sure if this is who she really is, though, or if it's what she's learned to be because of her brothers. She's trying to sort out girl culture, but she's not sure that fits her either or if it's just something she wants to understand because it's normal. In other words, she's as angsty as teenagers are wont to be. Not a drama queen... it's just that no one understands!

She plays a little too rough with other girls, and often misses the subtle cues so important to teenage girls, taking what's said to her at face value. Because of this, she's struggled to make friends and is use to being at best invisible, and at worst singled out for teasing. She is tight lipped about her feelings, but really, at the end of the day, she knows she has a family that loves her very much, and that's what really counts, so even when she's blue she isn't too mopey or whiney.

Shay doesn't have the same ardent patriotism as her eldest brother, the Trouble had died down to a low simmer by the time she was old enough to be aware of them in a concrete fashion. She's much more worried about making friends then making a stink about the continued occupation of Northern Ireland. She's sort of Catholic by default, and feels both proud and ashamed of that fact. She hates when people joke about large Irish-Catholic families, that the Irish are drunks, or similar stereotypes, and this is when what pride she has in her roots shows.

She has similar mixed feelings about Kerry being gay. He's been out for the vast majority of her life, and she simply accepts it as fact. On one hand, she's proud of him if for no other reason than he's her big brother. On the other hand... he's kind of embarrassing. As if she needed another reason for people to make fun of her! She'd of course defend him tooth and nail... she really just wished he would give her less reason to. Couldn't he pick just one? Either gay, or crippled, or Irish Republican? But ooooh no, he's gotta be both openly gay and openly Irish, and goes around making bad jokes about having only one leg. I mean, it's like he's trying to ruin her life!

Background information: Shay has no memory of her father, she was only a couple months old when he was killed. Even her mother is a rather vague memory, as her mother died when she was only three. She has vague recollections of the trauma of her early years. She remembers Kerry being in the hospital, and moving from their home in a Catholic ghetto to a bit more on the edge of the city, moving in with uncle Teagan and uncle Cain. Her uncles are more parents to her than her mother and father were.

Shay grew up surrounded by men, something that never phased her until she was thirteen and started menstruating. Luckily she was away at school, and had plenty of adult women to turn to. Things were never quite the same though, she was no longer 'one of the boys', at least not to her brothers. That still upsets her a little, as she sees it as being less loved, when really, the boys are just trying to be respectful.

She's very close to Kerry, an alliance of the youngest and the oldest sibling. That Kerry was gay helped with that situation, he seemed to understand her better. He wasn't much help when she was trying to figure out panty hose, or needed a new bra, but he would at least talk to her about it with out getting all flustered. The fact that they were the only two of the six with magic ability probably also contributed to that. As stated before she feels both proud of him, for all that he is and all that he does... and embarrassed because... well... he's just not normal.

Shay has never had a boyfriend (or girlfriend?) and prefers to focus on her studies, and on playing quiddich. She plays (with mod permission) seeker for her house, which she loves and is very good at. She's not a bookworm and would prefer to be outside but she's not anti-intellectual. Her favorite class by far and away is care of magical creatures. She isn't quite sure how she feels about having Kerry coming to work at hogwarts. Despite their close relationship, he's still her older brother. She's not sure she wants him so close at hand if she were to get in trouble. She's also rather worried that he's going to embarrass her, either by being his dorky self, or by trying to mollycoddle her and always have his nose in her business.
