I thought it was about time to start a thread for discussion of the new cd. I won’t say "review", because I have no musical knowledge or training, so I’m not qualified to write an actual review.

So it will just be me babbling on with my opinions. And, happily, I’m the only person who reads anything I post here, so therefore no one will disagree with me. ☺

I was really excited about a new HIM cd, but I was nervous that it would be so different from their earlier stuff that I wouldn’t like it. Well, it is very different, but I needn’t have worried because I love it.

This album is so much poppier than anything they have ever done—who would ever have thought you could be dancing and bopping to a HIM song? Let alone 13 of them! The songs are short, poppy and danceable, and still filled with all the misery we have come to expect. And it works surprisingly well.

I really like the overall sound of this cd. I’m not sure if it was the way it was recorded, or mixed or whatever, but the sound is really crisp. And the vocals are absolutely fantastic. I think this is Ville’s best vocal performance in a long time.

Ok that’s it for now, it’s late and I’m tired. I’ll post comments about individual songs later. ☺

Chapter 1 -- In Venere Veritas

First song on the cd is In Venere Veritas, which is latin, and apparently it means something like "In love, there is truth"

This is a good opener to set the tone for the cd. It's pretty poppy and very catchy. "Let's fall apart together now" -- what a great line!---falling in love, what it does to you, but you're in it together.

Wow, I just love the way this whole album is mixed. As I said, it's a very crisp sound, but also, the vocals are really clear and...i don't even know how to describe it. You can hear every breath, every little gasp, all those trademark Ville vocalizations. It's almost like you are sitting on his lap, and he is singing right to you.

Some great lyrics here. As always, Ville uses a lot of word play, like this line "From eve to morn, for Eve to mourn".
Anyways, great song. It's not my favorite from the cd, but still very good. Oh, and I love the way he says "mausoleum"

Chapter 2 – Scared to Death

WOW, this song is OVER-THE-TOP poppy and totally mushy! So why do I love it? Well, lets see...

First line:
“In the biblical sense and sensibility, let me know you.”
<”Let me know you” EEEEEE!! I swear I ovulate every single time I listen to that bit>

Second line:
“I’ll kiss that smile off your face, just say when.”
<And the egg is galloping down the fallopian tube, screaming “FERTILIZE ME VILLEEEEEEE!!!”>

Oh, ahem. Sorry, got a little carried away by my hormones there for a minute…

Anyway, this is a sweet little completely un-HIM-like pop song, perfect for radio play. Not my favorite song on the album, but I do like it anyway. ☺ (Is it warm in here, or is it just me?)
