The tank's job in the group is to keep the monsters mad enough at him/her (via "threat"). The healer's job is to keep the tank alive while this is happening, and the DPS's job is to kill the monster. Its the trinity of dungeon adventuring. Every class generates threat when it does damage. Healers generate threat when they heal. When the level of threat being generated is above the threat level of the tank, the monster will turn to the person with the highest threat. When this happens, people die and parties wipe. Make sure that if you are not the tank that you don't generate so much threat that you pull the monster off of the tank, and onto you. When you see that your threat level is approaching to 90% of the tanks threat level, stop, take a breath or two while the threat decays, and continue. If you don't do this then not only are you likely to be squished, but the healer now has to divide their attention between the tank and you, and may have to decide to let you die in order to save the group. |

many dps classes have ways to drop threat, which is very useful if you dont want to stop dps'ing. some bosses have enrage timers, usually about 10 minutes, and when your overall dps isnt very high you cant afford to stop and let threat drop, so using these spells is extremely helpful in downing bosses hunters - feign death mages - not sure of the exact names but you do have it, just take a look at the spell book rogues - feint warlocks - soulshatter feral druids (dps)- have cower in cat form tho feral dps is usually pretty weak and for most guilds feral druids are tanks shadowpriests, boomkins, shamans and i'm sure a few others i'm not too familiar with have no such way to drop threat, and i know very well how much threat a boomkin can generate. there are talents however that you can put points in that slightly reduce the threat you generate, as well as the enchant - subtlety for cloaks, that lowers it by 2% or so another problem that can arise with the issue of threat is when your tank is overgeared for the instance. a good friend of mine Tremurr(Suramar server) has gear that is almost too good for heroics and karazhan. he can almost solo tank all of karazhan, without the need for the usual offtank. by overgeared, and tremurr is a good example, i mean that his armor and block/parry stats are so high, that the easier bosses dont hit him enough for him to generate rage to keep threat, and we tend to pull aggro alot in heroic runs. just a few more words of wisdom, hope it helps out |

That sounds good. I have not downloaded any aggro meter yet to see how much threat/aggro I am creating. Do you have a suggestion for the necessary addon I would need? As a pally healer, my threat comes from healing. Thanks. edit: (lol) I just found the thread that gives the answer to this question: Omen Threat Meter. Thanks. pally healers dont generate a whole lot of threat, the classes of healers that generally have to watch themselves are resto druids and shamans, but for everyone in the raid to show up on the threat meter, you all have to use the same one, so just keep that in mind |
