Day 1 (Ash Wednesday) Scripture: John 1:3-5 3 Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. Application: All things were made by Christ. Amen? That means He fashioned you with His hands and breath. Did He make you less than perfect? Did He ask you to live with a handicap of being overweight or obese and settle for less than health? Did He form you to be heavier than the next creature He made? Did He cause you to put more weight on your body than what He designed? No, we must not blame genetics, social standing, environmental disadvantages, or any other excuse that the world would offer us. He is perfect and His creations are perfect, but sin in this world has marred it. Can we do something about inherent sin? Yes, we can learn to be more than conqueror’s in Christ Jesus. The Book of Proverbs clearly defines that gluttony or drunkards are one in the same sin. Excess to the detriment of the temple of God is sin. In 1997 Americans spent $95 billion for alcoholic beverages. Think about that figure, but also what must be spent on junk food, snacks, and that of no nutritional value for the body alone. What do you really spend on just chocolates, pop or coffee, while third world countries have children starve to death everyday? There are sins, like gluttony, that can be repented of. Repentance is not just an apology to our Maker, but to cease from the habit that binds us to this sin. Christ’s light shines in the darkness and exposes it. Prayer: Lord God, today I will say the words, “I am a glutton and I have sinned against heaven and the temple of my body which You have created. I repent, O Lord, but I’m going to need Your divine help; I need to lean on Your strength to cease my ways. I am no longer handicapped. Lord, I am victorious from this day forth, in Your might and power, and no longer by my willpower alone. I give this former area of defeat to You, and I ask that You strengthen me to overcome, in Jesus’ name. Amen My Commitment Today: |
