P R O F E S S I O N A L Q U I D D I T C H Fight for the British and Irish League Cup on your childhood favorite Quidditch team! R E C R U I T I N G When a student leaves Hogwarts, there is the possibility he or she will be invited by one or multiple different professional Quidditch teams. Students that play at least one full Quidditch season (one season = three matches) on a House team is qualified to play professionally. Students that have proven to be successful Quidditch players (excellent roleplayers) will get more invitations from various teams than someone that wasn’t such a good quidditch player (so-so roleplayer). Captains of House teams will get the most invitations. P A Y M E N T Professional Quidditch players get paid very well: 500 sickles a match (win or lose), and an additional 1000 sickles of the first place winners of the British and Irish League. The team in second place receives an additional 750 sickles, and third place winners get an additional 500 sickles. B R I T I S H A N D I R I S H L E A G U E The Arrows and the Wasps have had a bitter rivalry since before anyone can remember. The fans have been banned from shooting arrows into the sky from their wands when one of them hit the referee’s nose. Their robes are pale blue emblazoned with a silver arrow. Behind the Montrose Magpies, the Bats are the second most successful team in the British and Irish League, winning a total of twenty-seven times. Their robes are all black with a scarlet bat on the front. Barny the Fruitbat, their mascot, is recognized worldwide. “Dangerous” Dai Llewellyn is one of the most famous players in history, but tragically was eaten by a Chimaera. The team still mourns the death along with all of Welsh on his national mourning day. They wear vertically striped light green and scarlet robes. Chudley Canons The Canons possibly have the most devoted fans, considering the have a large losing streak. The Chudley Canons emblem of double “C”s and a speeding black canon ball can be seen on the backs of their bright neon orange robes. Falmouth Falcons Known for their foul play, the Falcons are a rather violent team. They wear gray and white robes with their mascot across their chests. Currently, its team’s most famous past players are Kevin and Karl Broadmoor, both brothers and Beaters. Holyhead Harpies This team is the only Quidditch team in Britain and Ireland that hires only witches. The Harpies wear dark green robes with a golden talon on the front. Most agree that the their defeat of the Heidelberg Harriers in 1953 to be the greatest game of Quidditch ever. Former Kestrel Keeper and captain Darren O’Hare is credited in the invention of the Chaser Hawkhead Attacking Formation. The team wears robes emerald in color that sport two yellow “K”s, both facing opposite directions, on the chest. The most successful team in the British and Irish League in history, the Magpies have fans across the globe. A past Seeker of their’s complained that the Golden Snitch was too slow. They wear robes with a magpie on the front, back, and are black and white in color. The Prides’ robes are deep purple in color with a single golden star on the front. Their most famous past player is easily their former captain Catriona McCormack, who played for Scotland in the Quidditch World Cup thirty-six times. Puddlemere United One of the oldest and widely celebrated teams in the league, Puddlemere United has a large fan base, including Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore. The team wears navy-blue robes and their emblem of the two crossed golden bulrushes. The Tornados currently hold the record of fastest catching of the Golden Snitch in a match against Caerphilly Catapults in 1921. They have light blue robes with double “T”s on the chest and back. The silver meat cleaver on the front of their blood red Quidditch robes could symbolize how intimidating the team is, but it actually originates from the wizarding butcher who was often seen on the side of the pitch with a wand and cleaver in either hands. Wimbourne Wasps The fans of the Wasps—“Stingers”—are known for buzzing loudly to distract the opposing team. The Wasps wear horizontally striped black and yellow robes with their mascot of an irritated-looking wasp on their chests. |
