That one guy that makes films
....in two or three months, i'll be making my own gaming rig!

It'll be my first computer making ever. I'm following a text guide on techguy.org (very reliable site that i have used for years) on how to put it together. But i also know jamesy makes em so i wanted his pro opinion. Here's what it will include, as of now.

AMD Phenom 2 X4 3.4ghz - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727 BEEEAAAASTTTT!!!

Gigabyte Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128438

Nice Antec PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=17-371-022&ReviewNo=1578157&SortField=0&Pagesize=10&IsFeedbackTab=true&rdm=9#scrollHelpful1

Gfx CArd - GTS 450. Not top of the line but definitely fine for me, however I might bump up a few versions.. It's about $140 on Newegg but i could get a much better one for 200 so i don't know.

Hard drive - any that fits with the system and has maybe around ~500 gb? i don't need that much space. (help?)

Case - Antec 902? This thing looks crazy good but maybe too much $$. - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129058

Ram - maybe 4gb ... that's probably enough.

Umm am i missing anything?
I have a budget of about 800-900 for all the parts (except the monitor).
Also, Q for you James:

I kind of want a motherboard that can have more than 2 usb ports, but after looking on newegg for a bit i couldn't find any. I'd also like them to be in front not in back, but that's not a huge deal. How is this done?

That's all for now.. keep on truckin, or whatever. lol.

That's great Paul that you decided to build your own PC your self B-)

If that guide that you're following leaves anything out for what to do just ask me i know everything there needs to know about building a PC lol. <3

For your USB Question - The mobo you picked has 3 USB ports on the mobo and 8 in the back. Unless you are talking about the 2 on the front of the case you picked out. Then there really is not many Cases that have more then 2 USB ports on the front. *mine only has 2 USB in the front as well* But my Mobo has like 6 on the back with an extra USB connector that came with the mobo that has 2 USB on it so i get like 8 lol + the 2 in the front which is 10

I do have a few touch ups/suggestions for the parts of your PC. And they are...

1.Motherboard - The one you picked ain't bad but this one *Click* is alot better *even tho it's less money* Or this one *if you have paht wallet* *Click*

Now both of these have 3 USB on the mobo and 6 ports in the back. *which means that the 3 USB connectors on the mobo you can connect to another device that uses them like the front USB of your case will have a cable that goes there so the front USB on your case will work or like some extra USB PCI thing like what came with my MOBo so you can have more USB'S etc*

And the USB's on the back of the mobo are built into it you don't have to connect these for them to work.

2.CPU - The one you picked out is fine but just a note. The 955 is just the 965 under-clocked 200MHZ there is no diff only that the 965 is more money *last i looked* All i had to do with my 955 was move the multiplier up from 16 to 17 *in the bios* and i had 3.4 GHZ just like the 965 not too hard. just an FYI

3.PSU - That's way too much PSU for your PC *unless you plan on Dual video cards later or some thing* Here is some thing just as good *Click* or this *Ive had one of these for 3 years now and no problems* Click* Now even tho the PSU from geeks says its 850w that's its peek power its only really like a 700W - 750W FYI *geeks don't list this* Ive ran my 9800 gt and now my 285 GTX on this PSU no problems at all.

4.GFX card - Now if you want some thing really nice go with the 285 GTX *Click* or the 460 GTX *Click*

Other wise the 450 GTS *Click* you listed is prob fine for you.

5.Hard Drive - 500GB should be enough *Click* Or *Click* *unless you're like me and have over 200 PC games and a a-hella ton of video files* My 1TB HDD has like 300GB left atm. And i totally filled up the 250GB HDD i use for backup.

Also all 3.5 Hard drives will fit in any ATX/MATX case HDD bays FYI

6.RAM - Yea, 4GB should be enough for any gamer. Unless you do alot of video encodes/video making/Keep 3 video games open at once *like i do some times* :lmao: Then i would go with 6GB or 8GB Any more then that is way over kill for ram.

Here is some good ram to buy in DDR3 - G.SKILL *Click* or *Click* Kingston

7.CASE - The case you listed is good but if you want some thing cheaper here are a few.

1.NZXT BETA EVO *Click*
2.NZXT M59 *Click*
3.NZXT LEXA S LEXS *Click*
4.NZXT Apollo *Click*

I have the NZXT Apollo and i personally love it. Best case i ever bought.

Extras

CPU thermal Grease - You will need to apply this to the CPU before putting the heat sink on it.

Here is some that are good that i know of. *but i personally like OCZ freeze the best. It brought my CPU temp down by at least 30c from the stock paste my CPU came with* lol

1.OCZ freeze - Ebay - *Click* ZimzoomFly - *Click* This is out of stock at newegg and tigerdirect sadly

2.Arctic Silver 5 - *Click* *I never tried the stuff but i heard it was pretty good*

3.ARCTIC COOLING MX-2 *Click* I never tried this but i heard/read that its almost as good as OCZ freeze and is alot better then Arctic silver 5*

Also here is a easy video on how to apply thermal paste/install a CPU On youtube - *Click*

Yes, i know it sounds older then the hills but it still applies to the amd processors today

And here is what happens when you remove the CPU heat sink *Click* Just for fun lol

I guess thats all i can think of atm. Just ask me for anything else.

Also if you don't know how to get Windows 7 OS for your new PC i can send ya a torrent/crack for it. *if you wanted win7 on your new pc that is*

Only other OS i could think of would be like XP 64bit but that's kinda old now. lol

I Wish you Good luck Sir.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm liking the Lexa S Lexs case. I might go for the cheaper motherboard. I probably will go with a higher up Gfx card if I can afford it. One thing -

I asked on techguy.org about a PSU and they said I should go for at least a 650W for my setup? I would like to get a very good PSU (willing to spend a decent amount if it will last me a while). What do you think James? And no i probably won't be doing double sli but it's possible.

@ case - yea good choice that's a nice case.

@ motherboard - Ive always liked Asus mobos Either one of those are beast in my book

@ PSU - corsair is a very good psu brand if you want quality and high price lol the 600W one i listed would be just fine for your setup. it could handle it just fine even if you had a 285GTX/460GTX in there but sli is out of the question you would need at least the corsair 850W *Click* as a minimum if you wanted to do 285GTX SLI or 460 GTX sli.

I was thinking about getting that one myself for when i do 285 GTX SLI later.

Hey James how safe are those cracks?

If one of them screwed up I could still completely remove the OS right?

They are perfectly safe  The Windows 7 Activation Crack is only a *soft mod* It just fools Windows before it boots up that its genuine so that Microsoft can't block it. *some thing like that* It's not like you're going to *hard mod* The motherboards bios chip *that would be hard/dangerous*

Even if the crack *fails to work/install* It wont mess up anything really *unless you picked the wrong mode to install*

Ive had it on both my PC's for months now it works great. Dhan even used it.

And of course you can remove/re-install Windows all you want the crack does not mess this up in anyway.

The crack is very simple to install as well. It's mostly

1.Open program

2.Choose the correct mode to install crack

3.Click install *wait*

4.Reboot Windows

5.Click Windows key + pause/break

6.Check to see if windows says its genuine. And you're done.

Windows will work just as if you bought a product key and entered it. All genuine downloads will work etc

The Windows 7 Crack is only like 2mb or so very small. I can send it to you if you want it.

Are you going to install Windows XP on your new Computer? That would be kind of a waste imo unless you install the 64 bit one so that you can take full advantage of your ram/vram. *since XP x86 only uses a-little over 3.5gb for every thing on your PC which is a huge bottle neck*
*this is the same for every 32bit OS*

The only OS's That can take full advantage of your ram etc are 64bit Versions *which are far better*

So far there have been 3 *that are good for games/normal use*

1.Windows XP SP2 64bit Edition *this may say SP2 and not 3 but this XP is based off of windows Server 2003 so in fact this XP's SP is newer then x86 XP's SP3*

2.Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit

3.Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit

Also XP is not very good at handling more then 2 Cpu cores anyways So with Windows 7 you would get your *Full performance* from your Quad Cpu.

Tbh i would just get Windows 7 and forget Vista/XP... far better for your new PC. *and games*
