does anyone want to get on board for making a few cob ovens at schools around the valley *near enfield *charter school in greenfield *after school prog. in montague We'd collect a bunch of clay and sand from the CT river, some hay from the HC farm center, and head over sometime in late spring, work (possibly) with middle school kids to make these ovens. There's one at sirius in shutesbury that - once fired up - cooks pizzas in literally 9 seconds, and can keep cooking for 24 hours without fire!! anyway, let me know if you're down, it'll probably be sometime in April or may. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cob_(material) |

Yes I would love to do that. I bet we could get service learning hours for doing something like that too. I've built one before but it was a community effort so I wasn't part of the entire process. I know we did about three or four layers of super adobe rings which is just a mud cement and water mixture really tightly packed in long sacks. We had stones in the middle that we then covered with a layer of cob I think and then built a sand castle on top of the covered stones (the middle of the ring). The we cobbed the hell out of the sand castle I guess? thats the part I missed. And to finish, after the cob was dry, we dug out the sand in the middle. Has anyone else made one that has a clearer understanding of the process? I bet more thorough instructions would be pretty easy to find. |

I'm down, too. I have pretty much the same experience as Emilia, though. |
