Hey. This is just a brief reminder of certain things that I think we all, new and old members alike should remember. SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME GOLDEN RULE:) Don't take control of someone else's character. This is most important. You have to let people make their own decisions. 1.) Remember to try and flush out your posts with details to keep them a little longer than a paragraph. 2.) Check over your spelling, make sure you aren't missing key words or typing a completely different one instead of what you meant. (guilty...) 3.) Try to use only one tense, Preferably past tense when describing what is happening or what your character is doing. (was, had to, said etc... instead of would say, is doing etc...) Speaking can be in any tense you like. 4.) Please try your best to wait a few posts in the RP before you post again. (A rule o thumb is 3, but sometimes it's appropriate to post sooner.) This is to cut back on the amount that happens in case someone is sleeping or away or something. It gives everyone a chance to participate. As always, If you have any questions about a post, send it to me or church and we'll help you out. Now get out there and Smash. |

Ok, first off, I'm going to use one of DjDragonia's posts, but this is not specifically targeting him. I can pick out several members who do this regularly, his is just the example since I think he'll be cool with it. If your not, sorry in advance. Second, I like the pace everything is moving and I don't want the following to cut back on postings, I'm just intending to fix an error that has become commonplace recently. ok; here we go. First I'll quote the original post:
Overall, this post is ok. There are no spelling errors, just a few mechanical errors and the point is delivered. The main and major error is the use of Future tense vs. Past tense. Think of posting in the RP's in the same way that a novel is written. Post as though the events already happened and you're retelling them to us all. The post should be written in a manner similar to this:
This post is easier to read, and it gels with the story a lot easier. Please take the time to make sure your posts are posted in a similar fashion. I'm going to start editing them if they're not, and I can't guarantee that they'll always say the same thing, or say it in the way you intended. Thanks guys. This is something that will benefit everyone in return. Edited by ssj4allan, Aug 14 2010, 09:50 PM.

Agreed, though there are times a different tense can be used, they are few and far between. The best bet is quite simply, avoid it altogether unless you really know what you are doing. Also remember that every post works to make a novel ( a super jelly filled novel), your post (as epic as it may be) shouldn't cut the story off altogether. Not a problem from anyone from the site, but I've seen it happened. It makes it super hard for the person after you to jump back in. |

ATTENTION!!!! Church; and everyone else who reads this: There was an Error in my original posting. Guy originally pointed it out, but I missed the post. The Rules of GotS state that Smashers are limited to three posts per day in the RP. NOT That you have to wait three posts before posting again. While it is a general rule of thumb to wait a few posts between one of yours and the next, it is not required. Sometimes it is necessary, and appropriate to post after someone responds to your post. Sorry for the mistake and any inconvenience this may have caused you. P.S. Church, you'll have to update the portal to reflect this update. You can just copy the changes made to the first post. |
