Still, games should have GRIPPING beginnings! Think Lost Odyssey, or Overlord, or FF6, 7, and 9! Think of Super Mario Bros 3! Banjo Kazooie! All of the awesomeness that is out there, beyond the fandom of castlevania, in which only a FEW GEMS lye! Why play mediocre games because of fandom when there are good games in every genre that you still haven't played? |

No series is truly perfect. Castlevania's appeal lies in its magnificent aesthetics and tight gameplay. Games such as Belmont's Revenge, Symphony of the Night and Castlevania Chronicles are perfect examples of what I'm talking about. There are more great games in the series, and oh what do you know, over half of them are not done by IGA! Surprise! As for your comment on the gripping beginnings, Castlevania rarely falters in that (an example being OoE). Take Super Castlevania IV, for example. Or Symphony of the Night. Or Dracula's Curse. Or Bloodlines. All of these have superb beginnings. And I don't play Castlevania just because of fandom. I genuinely enjoy the games. Not every game, but I still believe it's one of the better series out there, due to the large amount of solid games it has. 'Course, I play a lot of other games too. I generally like every genre (except sports) and play a lot of games from them all. So I'm not just limiting myself to Castlevania, as you so suggested.

Most sane people think that FF7 was revolutionary graphicly and overall a great game. Its direction and use of prerendered backgrounds and cutscenes greatless enhanced the games ability to tell a story. Final Fantasy 4 is a great game, its one of the best in the series, but I would still hold Final Fantasy 7 above it. It had its flaws, but it did tell a complex and expansive stories and had likable characters despite what the classic ff fanboys like to say to try to make themselves stand out and look cool. By the way, you need to play more final fantasy 1, its simplicity and perfection gives it the number 2 spot, below ff6, for best classic Final Fantasy in my opinion. Of 7-10, 9 is the best. Let me tell you about a little game called Robo Pit. Crappy game, horrible graphics, unbalanced gameplay, someone actually thought it would be a good idea to make a sequel. It and its sequel are two of my favorite games and I still play them to this very day. |
