There is nothing inherently wrong with a global currency, so long as it is not fiat and not mandated by force. Gold and Silver are global currencies and would be excellent candidates for a future world money. However, if you give a government and/or a Central Bank the power to manipulate the money supply, they will inherently destroy it. That's why the dollar is collapsing, and that's why any global currency will inherently fail. "All paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value, zero." -Voltaire |

I'm pretty sure me and Ryan have been talking about collapse in the sense of the Wiemar Republic sense (ie the pictur I used). |

Perhaps but he does initially and primarily speak of the collapse of the dollar in the sense of losing its hegemony. That is how I infer his statements. |

Oh I mean both - the dollar will be replaced as the global currency unit of choice AND the dollar will experience massive hyperinflation until the U.S. economy is wiped out. This topic only really deals with the context of the former claim, not so much the second - I talk about that elsewhere. |

Bud Lights could be 1, PBR could be 20. But I digress.I think unless some serious world-changing shit goes down soon, the dollar will still be on top for a while. Or near the top, anyway. Edited by Maxwell Wilder, 27 Oct 2009, 01:24 PM.

Several major countries officially announced they will DUMP THE DOLLAR. How is that not "serious world-changing shit"? Side Note: 500th Post! Edited by Ryan, 27 Oct 2009, 01:32 PM.

Well, it's only a matter of time till we invade them and forcefeed them the dollar back. But yes, I see the point.

The dollar has fallen, much like the pound sterling in the early 20th Century. It is indeed an inevatablity. Currencies rise and fall much like empires*. On the point of the US forcing nations back onto the dollar, I believe it's a little too late for that. Ryan, which countries have announced the dropping of the dollar? *by empire I'm taking a very liberal definition and speaking about a nation with wide influence, not necessary a body politic. |
