She ran. She ran faster. There was no where to go. She was lost in this dark, shadowy forest. Shadows followed her wherever she went. If she turned left, they were there. If she turned right, they were there.

The night grew colder as she quickened her pace. The cool, night air was icy against her snow white skin. Someone was following her. She could hear the loud thud of someone else’s footsteps over the soft patter of her own. They were behind her for one minute and the next, they were to her side.

She couldn’t take this anymore. She fell to the ground, cowering, shaking with absolute fear. There were no other emotions or words to describe the way she was feeling. She was suffering for a terrible and severe case of pure fear. It ran through her like the blood in her veins. Every part of her took it in with a great thirst, drowning her. She couldn’t breathe.

The rock kept her safe, though. In the pitch black night, she had still found her way to a nice, secure rock. She pressed her thin, pale body against the sharp rock. It raised a metre over her, protecting her from any eyes.

The footsteps remained. Thud, thud, thud against the hard, dry ground. It left the forest in the most terrifying noise. There was no other sound, except for the two feet that ran along the dirt floor.

She sobbed quietly to herself. Water ran from her eyes and made a soft ‘pat’ as they hit the ground. The tears flowed uncontrollably as she hid herself from him or her. She knew they were after her. There was no one else here to be found. It scared her, knowing someone was after her.

Her skin prickled as a chill ran through her body. The cool breeze all of a sudden turned into a strong gust of wind. It filled the night air with music; a soft tune, calming her; releasing her from the gripping terror.

Her calmness didn’t last long. When the wind died, so did the sound of the footsteps. She peered over the top of the rock. Her stomach twisted into knots as she saw what was there. Two cold, black eyes stared back at her. They had a hint of evil in them, as they followed her.

She felt the chill return to her body. Her skin prickled as the fear came back. All she could feel was terror again.

The footsteps then began again. They were louder now that they were closer. Soon she could hear the uneven breathing of what she had now worked out was a him. He was standing right above her, looking down at her. Her voice croaked as it tried to cry out in fear. No scream came. Just a quiet croak.

Two stone cold hands touched the bare skin of her arms. A shiver pulsed through her body as they grabbed at her and pulled her from the ground. His face was scarred; his mouth twisted in what appeared to be a pathetic attempt at a smile. One hand then moved down to his pocket and pulled out a knife. The silver blade sparkled in the moonlight as it moved to her throat. The coolness was pleasant compared to the heat her fear brought her.

Her body trembled in his grip. He held her tighter and soon, the silent night was filled with a piercing scream. It echoed throughout the whole forest for less than two seconds. And then complete silence again.
