Yulia was among the first to arrive, donning her proper dinner dress and taking her seat at one of the circular tables. She would have to get to know some of the girls around her - because strength not only worked in numbers, if she was able to, she'd turn the whole school against that Japanese girl. While she didn't care much for the American, still, she was better than that oriental one. Flagging down a servant, she informed her that she wanted Hors D'Oeurves, and she expected to have them as soon as possible. |

Saraswati entered the dining hall in her Western-style gown of maroon with cream-coloured lace and embroidery, her long black hair neatly braided into a rope that fell down the center of her back, feeling just a little out of place. No, it wasn't just the fact that she had brown skin, so unlike the milk-white of the other girls, but it was mostly because she felt so awkward in such heavy, stifling materials. She didn't know how the other girls put up with all of it on top of the corset, which she refused to wear. Honestly, it was hard enough just to walk without having diffuculty breathing! She dearly missed the feeling of wearing her light, silk saris in all their bright colours. Although she did bring some with her from her comfortable home in Bombay, they didn't suit the weather here in England and people would only stare, anyhow. Well, she'd just have to deal with it, as her father had said. It was either that or go back to India and marry her fiancé. Not that she didn't want to marry him exactly. It just felt too soon, too sudden. So here she was. Saraswati glanced around the room. There weren't too many gathered here yet so the room felt rather empty and sparse. A curvy blonde young woman caught her eye - she was so well-dressed and had such a voluminous figure that she naturally caught one's gaze and refused to let go. She glanced around nervously. Well, her father did tell her to try to make friends and there was no better way than to try talking to someone. "Excuse me," she said, well aware of her Indian accent and her quiet tone of voice. "May I sit here? Or are these seats taken already?" |

A strange accent speaking to Yulia forced her to look up and see whom it was speaking to her. The "Excuse me," was kind and sweet, even though heavily accented. It was no doubt that this girl was foreign to Britain, and was not Russian. When Yulia finally turned her head, she was met by a rather beautiful girl with a dark skintone. This was a pleasant surprise - most with skintones this dark did not tend to be beautiful at all, but this one was. Yulia looked at her more and noticed that this girl's figure wasn't as heavily corseted as everyone else's. She wasn't one of those Orientals like that Japanese girl, and while she certainly didn't seem to be as good as Yulia, Yulia would still lend the pitiful little thing an ear. "Certainly. If you wish to sit here, I certainly haven't a qualm with it," Yulia responded back, in kind. |

Annie wasn't sure what to think about such a dinner at all. She had never been to a meal of its accord as splendorous as it was. She was used to getting leftovers or whatever was available for dinner. They were still fairly poor at home and food wasn't a big deal to them as it should be. So she was excited about the nice food there. Though she was really nervous about the fact that she probably had never even actually tried any of the things that were being served there. She already felt out of place from the basic meeting before. What could be worse if she made a mess of her dinner? She didn't know but she didn't exactly want to find out. Annie had no idea what to do about so called ettiquet with this meal either and hoped she wouldn't be the only fool trying to eat fancy foods when she never had before. Perhaps the Russian or the Japanese might have the same trouble? She could only hope so, feeling extremely nervous already. Annie had no idea where to sit or if there was a certain order. Not only that but she still felt weird with her dress too. She hated wearing fancier gowns and this was one of the few she possessed. It was very out of season and she supposed she had to get used to the insults that would come with it. She gulped wearily, looking around curiously at the wondrous dining hall. The whole hall was probably bigger than her entire house. She was entranced by the wonder of the colors around her and the size of the table. At least a few girls were already there. She would have to ask what to do and if they were supposed to sit anywhere. Annie certainly didn't want to make too much of a fool her first real dinner away from home. Besides what would the harm be in talking to her new friends? She finally wandered over and cleared her throat, watching the other girls talk amongst themselves. "Hello? Is there...are we supposed to sit anywhere? I have to apologize ahead of time...I don't think I've ever been to a fancy dinner before." She quickly admitted, hoping she wouldn't be shunned for such an admission. Annie was sure all these girls had been to many a beautiful dinner far more fancy than this one. And her saying so automatically obtained her class. But why did it even bother her? |

In the fashion of the Queen Bee that she knew that she was, Madeline strolled into the room, with a small cadre of girls that she spoke with. She looked across the table and immediately, the sight of that unruly American girl caught her eye. She did a bit more whispering and conversing with some of those of her gender. She didn't need these girls, but even so, it was always best to get people to join ones' side. They would easily side with Madeline before they sided with an American - Americans were rude and conducted themselves as higher than little more than animals. Perhaps this girl would at least know a thing or two about how to properly eat dinner, rather than being so insanely, foolishly loud at a table, over her food, and in the sight of other women. She hoped that the Headmistress would warn this girl of her place. Seeing Yulia, Madeline decided to take a seat alongside her. She nodded at all of them, saying each of their names. On the other side of Yulia, however, was yet another dark-skinned girl - this one from what looked to be India. How interesting, indeed. |
