![]() The year is 1904. While things have changed remarkably for England, to an extent, some things remain the same. Long, languishing afternoons among the fashionable are part of the day. Social seasons, debutante balls, nights at the opera and trips on cruises and ships are among the multitude of things to do. But that's for those who aren't in school. ![]() The Pennington School for Girls is a school that prides itself on instructing young women in the ways of propriety. Founded by Abigail Pennington in 1796, The Pennington School has been a place where the extremely rich have educated their daughters. They have taught these women everything from Art, Literature, Civics and Latin to Deportment, Cooking, Dance and Hostessing. The classes and curriculum are rigorous, the grading system strict, and the discipline even stricter. Admission is competitive - only a few slots are allotted each year. The age range in girls ranges from 11-18. Preferences for Admission are -Daughters of Alumni -Social Position - with Peerage first, Old Money second and New Money third. -Familial Income -Family Lineage -For Non-English, Children of Diplomats, or wealthy businesspeople. Girls are housed on 3 wings of the building - the North Wing, The South Wing and the East Wing. A member of staff is around to watch the young women, though this doesn't always work out as well as it should. ![]() In 1880, a new measure was introduced to The Pennington school, opening a few spaces for those who were less fortunate. They were able to get in on scholarships, though, in general, these young women were from Middle-class families. It was in 1899 that the first girl from poverty was introduced to the Pennington School. ![]() In 1901, a scandal erupted at the Pennington School. Within days of the death of Queen Victoria, the owners of the school, Theodosia and Geoffrey Pennington, both disappeared, almost leaving the school to fend for itself. This is a mystery in and of itself, and it is practically the gossip of the school for girls currently enrolled there. It was through luck that a wealthy alumna, Lady Amelia Cavendish, took the school under her wing and is now the owner and headmistress of it. ![]() While the major part of the gossip has calmed down, still, with the young women, it remains, particularly those who were enrolled during the time of the scandal. Still, Lady Cavendish is a kind woman, one whom is firm with her girls, but also takes care of them and motivates them with kindness as well. She is one of the most loved Headmistresses at the Pennington School, even though she's a bit wary of something...the Pennington School is soon getting a neighbor...and it is said to be a boy's school.
