While the graphically superior Destroy All Monsters Melee holds a special place in my heart as one of the first third-party GameCube games I ever played, Save the Earth is a Godzilla game with (until Unleashed, or perhaps not; I haven't played it) no equal. My best friend Mike and I have on more than one occasion stayed up all night, playing that game straight for hours on end. I simply cannot understand the multitude of complaints regarding Save the Earth. Sure, it's not the most in-depth complexity you've seen in a fighter, but who was dumb enough to expect anything less than pure mashing destruction from a multiplayer Godzilla game? I personally love that play style. Simple enough that you can't have too unfair an upper hand against newer players, but just addictive enough to keep you coming back for more of what's quite simply the same thing over and over. But in a fashion not dissimilar to The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, I am perfectly content running around, smashing crap and not doing anything terribly important, long after I've beaten the game's story mode and unlocked everything. Once the thirst to play the game obsessively has passed, however, you're not likely to pick it up again for a while (at least until you're craving it again). It's not for everyone, and the necessity for a multi-tap just plain sucks, but Godzilla and brawler fans alike will get a (probably not as lengthy as mine) kick out of going multi-player with this game. From me, personally, Godzilla: Save the Earth gets an 8.25 out of 10.
