Willow, I was wondering if you have books or writings that are considered holy or sacred? As I understand it you use historical writings to try to reconstruct what the religious and spiritual practices and beliefs were of those whose path you follow, but are any of the writings considered sacred?

Well we don't have any "sacred" books. We do, however, have books that are generally considered to be more accurate (e.g. modern books by renowned Celtic scholars), and pieces of writing that are historical in nature (e.g. for Irish studies the "Brehon laws").

Of course since the Irish did not set down their tales and accounts until after the advent of Christianity one always has to question the influences on the writings. There are also accounts by the Romans and other contemporaries of the Celts that describe some of their customs. Of course these accounts have to be taken with a grain of salt.

The folklore that has been passed down is another valuable resource. There are much older versions of the stories that can be found, such as full accounts or fragments of stories that date back to the 9th century. The newer re-tellings of the 18th and 19th centuries are far more romanticized.

I may add to this later if I can think of something else :).
