The United States Army has asked for a slate of new weapons projects. Most of these have already begun and been under development, and most are small arms. The Army's future weapons integration program has been suspended due to high costs and dubious results, but the army's concern over the future of its small arms is a concern. The Army has already announced its participation in the Viper Tank Project, which will be named the M3 Viper in American service. These are America's small arms projects for its soldiers. M1044 Mobile Command Center The M1044 is a fully-functioning mobile command center, design to command armored units, that can rapidly go on the move and as such keep up with the units it is commanding. The M1044 is based on the Marine Corps Logistic Vehicle System and Army M870 trailers, but in addition use locomotive style multiple-unit control to control tracks in the rear, which will not be used unless necessary (to improve track life) and has road wheels to allow the vehicle to move in all terrain. The vehicle also includes armor protection against mines and IEDs. The vehicle is expected to cost roughly $3.5 million a unit, and is expected in service in 2012-2013. Crew: 2 Command Crew: 12 Length: 82 ft 5 in Width: 8 ft 6 in Height: 15 ft 6 in (antennas down), 18 ft 10 in (antennas up) Weight: 174,700 lbs (fully loaded) Engines: 2x Detroit Diesel DD15 engines, 2x Allison Transmissions, 1x General Dynamics track gearbox Power Output: 1120 horsepower, 3700 ft.-lbs torque Maximum Speed: 65 mph (governed) Maximum Range: 500 miles Turning Radius: 66 ft Maximum Climbable Grade: 45 degrees Steepest Approach/Departure Angles: 30 degrees Maximum Side Slope: 30 degrees Maximum Fording Depth: 60 in |
