General Rules The basic principle behind the rules is two-folded; be nice and use common sense. The "be nice" part should be fairly easy to understand. Treat your fellow players and staff with respect and don't go around insulting or flaming each other. Should a conflict arise or you feel somehow mistreated by someone else, notify the staff of the problem instead of retaliating yourself. __Make sure you keep what's said in character and out of character separate. Two characters may hate each others guts and throw insults back and forth all day long but their players should still be civil (and preferably friendly) with one another. You should also respect each other's characters which means no god-modding, power-playing, auto-hitting or any other term for controlling any character but your own and, in some cases, NPCs. __The "common sense" bit should be even clearer. Since it's impossible to write rules that cover every single situation there are bound to be a few loop-holes in them. Do not abuse them. The staff does not take kindly on people following the letter of the rules while bitch slapping their spirit. If you notice yourself asking "why isn't there a rule against this?" you probably shouldn't do that. Feel free to ask if you are unsure of something. We punish conscious disobedience, not ignorance. __Another thing that comes down to common sense is what might be seen as sensitive subjects, mostly sex and violence. This board doesn't have any sort of rating nor will there be many particular guidelines on the matter. Thus you will use your own judgement on what is or isn't acceptable. In short: Beating someone to a pulp - okay (as long as you don't do it IRL at least...). Describing an extremely graphic torture session in great detail - probably not okay. Characters having hot sex - okay. Graphically describing a rape scene - not okay. If you feel that something is on the fence, post a "warning" about the content at the beginning of the post or thread. __About the same goes for other sensitive subjects like racism, homophobia, chauvinism, etc. It's fine having a character that's the world's biggest bigot as long as it doesn't spill over into OOC talk. Remember: Be nice. Use common sense. If you keep this in mind, the rest should work out for you. Character Rules You may apply for both cannon and original character (OC). The difference in rules between them are rather small and keep in mind that since this is an alternate universe of sorts you can alter cannon characters almost as much as you like in regards to affiliation, age, even personality. Their powers, if not always the skill with them, remains the same as in cannon though but if you are applying for a character whose powers have changed or been expended through secondary mutations (such as Beast, Psylocke, Emma Frost, etc.) you may choose which stage of development your character is at. If your character canonically have developed secondary mutations that has not yet surfaced in our universe, it is possible that the character develops them as you play. However, this requires approval from the staff. __Some powers, whether wielded by a cannon character or an OC, are not allowed. This is mostly due to the power being to powerful to maintain the balance of the game or the powers being hard to use properly in an interactive setting such as an RPG (this applies mostly to powers like clairvoyance/precognition or time travel). Note that this list is by no means complete and you may be asked to change the powers or pick another character, especially if it's an OC.
As you join the board you are initially allowed to apply for only one character. In order to get a second character you should Show Your Dedication to the Mutant Cause (sorry, I share a speech writer with Magneto...) by making at least twenty-five posts before applying for the new one. When you want a third, you need at least twenty-five posts with both characters and then with all three characters to get a fourth. There is however a, possibly temporary, way of showing your dedication, helping the board and quickly getting more characters at the same time. Should you spread the word of us by posting our ad at suitable places (such as other Marvel, X-Men and/or role-playing boards) at least five times and then PM the address to a member of our staff, you will only need ten post with each character's account. Make sure the place where you post the ad is relevant (i.e. stand a chance of getting us more members) and doesn't already have one of our ads posted there. Also, note that if you use this way to go from one to two characters easier, you need to do it again (with different sites, naturally) to easier go from two to three or three to four. __Any significant change in your characters status is to be cleared by the staff. This include things like changed affiliation, second mutations or other change in powers, marriage, pregnancy and other things that alters the character in a major fashion. If your idea is reasonable, it is likely it will be cleared for use. Note that this applies to both cannon characters and OCs. Posting Rules Edited by Faustling, Jul 4 2009, 12:55 PM.
