What do you do with garden refuse? Weeds, rotten veggies, etc.

I know on a rabbit forum I'm a part of, we've been talking about feeding certain weeds and plants to the rabbits as supplemental food.

Back when I had chickens, we'd throw the rotten tomatoes in to them- we even shucked the corn and let the chickens peck the worms out (I figured we fed the worms all summer, they could do something for us! lol)

What other kinds of things can you think of to do with rotten produce, weeds, vines, etc?

In my post with the pix of the gardens, I mentioned the compost/manure pile that will eventually be a woodland garden. Kitchen scraps, coffee grounds, etc, goes there. The guineas stir it up a little for me. They come and investigate every time I throw something there.

I don't like to throw weeds on it b/c the seeds could end up in a garden. I'm lucky to be in a situation where I can throw weeds just about anywhere and I do. I toss them over the fence or whatever wild place is closest. Smaller weeds just get tossed over my shoulder onto the lawn. The lawn mower takes care of it.

As I'm picking off rotten fruit or whathaveyou, it usually just goes over my shoulder, too, if the compost pile is too far away.

A future plan will involve a chicken pen. I saw this in Backyard Poultry magazine. A compost pile where even weeds can go will be part of the pen. The chickens will do all the work in turning and picking thru it for the seeds and insects. And adding their own goodness to it.

Yeah, I'm a lazy gardener. lol

Anything that the bunnies can eat, they get. Otherwise we compost it to fertilize the garden for next year.
