Who believes ROMs are illegal? I honestly believe ROMs themselves are not illegal (if they were the big 3 would be on every ROM site's ass to shut down or be sued, and many ROM sites are thriving). It is illegal to download it for free if you have not bought it. But there enlies the problem. The site nor the big 3 can differentiate wether or not you have owned the game at some point. So while it isn't illegal, it is used often for illegal purposes. Which causes me to speculate on another related topic. Why doesn't the big 3 just shut down all ROM sites just to protect themselves? I would be disappointed to see that happen, but it is a AP (asset protection) problem for them. On a similar note, I am curious as to why copyrights seem to be violated a lot in P2P software (such as torrents), but the companies never do anything about it. |
