What do you guys think of the 2012 Apocalypse theory? I think It's a crock. Their have been tons of dates during mankind where the world was supposed to end and it didn't. Trust me I've seen a lot of discovery and History channel specials. |

It was one of Nostradamus's theories that the world would end in 2012. He made a lot of predictions during his life in the 1500's and a lot of them have came true supposedly. But its so vague. I think their mostly coincidences. Like he supposedly predicted the Reign of Napoleon, Hitler, George Bush, The twin towers being attacked. |

Kind of those hear what you want to things? If you think about humanity for a moment, people will turn on others, people will be greedy, people will have a "chip on their shoulder" mentality, how amazing. I don't know the extent of his predictions but if you look at it that way, it's really not that hard to believe. It's like me saying in the future, there will be war. *cue dramatic music* |

Yeah you have a point Josh. It's a tough subject. Some of it isn't that hard to believe. But a specific year and a date? That's whats throwing me off. See theirs a lot of 2012 theories that just don't add up. On the Mayan (Or Aztec i cant remember) calendar the world is supposed to end in December 23rd 2012 for no apparent reason. The asteroid 2012 theory is also brought up, that in 2012 an asteroid like the one that wiped the dinosaurs is going to come again. And then theirs the Nostradamus one. Theirs probably more. People seem to like the year 2012. |

They sure do lol. Well maybe the calendar stops then because the Spanish Conquistadors came in and killed the guy who was making it... Maybe he lost his pen, maybe there smart guy died. There could be a million reasons. Maybe some bird got at the rest of it, maybe they left the other parts out in the rain. Who knows. In regards to the asteroid, I don't think it's real realistic. The NEO (Near Earth Objects) monitoring group knows what meteors will closely pass by the earth for like the next 50 years. The only one possibly endangering us is one due to pass by in 2029. The only way it'd be unseen is like it'd have to come in behind the sun or something like that and sneak up on us, which is like a 1 and a million chance. That would be a problem due to the fact that our only ways to dispel incoming asteroids have to be used far in advance. There are several methods, but the one I remember is using a solar collector that can collect, refocus, and use the suns rays to like burn through parts of the meteor or something like that. The thing is it works so slow it would never destroy it, it just either knocks it off-balance somewhat, therefore forcing a change in trajectory, and just keep doing that until it's not on course to hit earth. |

Wow... I don't really think that it matters. If the world ends that day, then it does. Maybe they stopped making the calender because they didn't feel like writing anymore. And there is no way that a meteor will hit earth without us knowing. Unless its super far away going impossibly fast. |

If it creeps up behind the sun right then there's a potential scenario where we won't know until a week ahead of time, which is way to little time for the solar catcher, the only option would be like a nuke or something. Probable death is better than Certain death. But yeah if the world ends then it ends. I can't complain about 20 years really, more than a lot of people get. I don't think it will though. |

yeah I agree. I watched a program on ways to destroy/misdirect asteroids/meteors. And our technology isn't quite that advanced yet, but i think their working on ways. |

Well, I hope that nothing happens. I don't know about anyone else, but I want to live as long as possible. |
