Split/Second
ESRB Rating: Everyone 10 and up for Violence
Description: This is a violent version of traditional realism following car racing games. Players are set in a fictional TV show called Split/Second that takes place in a city “built for destruction”. What that translates into is that the race tracks are rigged with destructible items that lead to wrecking opponents by activating them. AKA A better, more realistic, faster paced, and violent Mario Kart.

What Skwid Thinks:
This game is really a work of art. I mean, I’ve played one of Disney Interactive’s other games, Pure, which got a whole lot of awards and such, but I didn’t like it much, so I didn’t have high hopes for Split/Second.
When I popped it in the game disc tray, I was, quite shockingly, blown away. When I heard what it was on IGN, I was like, wow, they aren’t even using branded cars in this game, they’re just made up cars, what a way to lower the budget. But no, quite surprisingly, it was very good! The made up cars are really cool-looking, and I suspect that’s why they didn’t use real car models: the cars in the game are much prettier than what you can buy at your local Porsche. And because all of the attacks in this game are triggered from the car, not fired from it (yup, it’s all environmental) it results in the game being much more different than say, Wipeout.
Well, now, how the hell you gonna fill the meter to be able to trigger attacks? Drafting, drifting, and air time. No there aren’t any jumps higher than 4 feet, so you’ll be drafting, and drifting. The meter is divided into thirds, so once you fill 1 third, you have the ability to do an attack, known as a Power Play, or, if you wait enough while going around the lap, open a shortcut when it shows the icon. Nothing changes when you fill up 2/3 of the bar, you still get the same power play/shortcut ability, but when you get the entire meter filled 3/3 of the way, you unlock the ability to do a Level 2 Power Play or a Route Change. There are 1-2 Level 2 Power Plays available in each track, and they are massively effective (pushing an entire ship parked in a parking lot over in to the water, scraping along with it any unlucky drivers). Route Changes are also like Level 2 Power Plays, although they not only damage, but they also redirect the entire track, opening up new shortcuts, available Power Plays, etc. There is only one Route Change available in a race, any track. All of this, although seemingly complex or simple, is downright easy to catch on to. There is practically no learning curve if you’ve ever played a racing game on an Xbox 360 or PS3, and even if not, you’ll be playing great 5 minutes after unboxing the game.
The cars you unlock are really nice, and even at the beginning of the storyline, the car you have is pretty darn sweet, even though the cars you get later make it look like a minivan. The game never gets frustrating, and on Normal difficulty, you’ll rarely have to retry a race. Don’t be thinking it’s easy, though, when I say you’ll barely hit the restart button, I mean half the times you won you’ll feel like you barely made it. Yeah, so it’s fun and challenging and satisfying to finish. Simple enough.
Multiplayer is very fun, as you can’t go wrong in blowing up your friend and then being targeted right in the back once he gets close enough to wreck you. And that’s another thing I should mention. Although you may crash and die a lot, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee that you won’t win. Unlike Mario Kart, once you die and respawn, your car doesn't start from zero mph, but at medium speed, so you can get right back in first place where you belong again. And after you die, you start at a considerable distance further than where your car exploded, so the game understands that you may have been so close and is giving you a chance to go for the win. It also wants you to kick the ass of whoever put you out of action those precious three seconds, and so when you come back, your meter is still the way it was when you died. Pretty sweet.
Closing Comments:
All in all, this game is one not to be missed. Funlinesswise I think it’s the least frustrating and most fun racing game you’ll play this summer. You’ll have a blast (LOL) wrecking people out of your way, but if they get you, you’ll still be laughing because now you’re behind them with a Level 2 Power Play ready to land an airplane on them. It’s really fun, and I’m quite impressed with Disney, and I’m definitely gonna buy the next game they make (if it’s not Cinderella).

Haha, Your tactics amuse me, O Wizard of Foot Clothes. But alas, I am not a member of any other forum, nor would I remember it if I joined. It would be best if you were to post a short preview of my reviews and then do it on the sites you advertise on. Also, the Welcome Box should say something about these reviews. KAY THX BYE!
