To me this would have to go to Dark Knight. Why because Heather ledger's job as Joker, and Areon Eckhart playing as Harvey Dent(aka two face). |

So far I've enjoyed The Dark Knight the best. Haven't been many excellent movies this year, so this choice was a bit of a no brainer. |

Heres a question: Did anyone find Dark Knight to be less than they were expecting? I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I think I was expecting it to be the greatest thing ever to hit the big screen, and the ending was a bit too cheesy for me. Also, I didn't find it dark enough. Batman was very so so IMO, the fall of Harvey Two Face didn't feel real to me, and the plot progression was good but not great. All in all, a solid movie (especially for a high budget Hollywood flick), but not the masterpiece I was hoping for. Exceptions on all points when it comes to the Joker. This was one of the greatest villains in recent cinematic history. I couldn't help getting caught up in the Heath Ledger craze, and he was the one thing that met or exceeded my expectations. Now I just can't wait for Watchmen, which looks great, but I'm sure I will be a bit let down by it as well. |

I totally agree, Acheron. I also thought Dark Knight was a great movie, almost definitely the best this year. (at least a better one doesn't come to mind) But when I saw it, I came out of the movie theatre and thought that somehow I was expecting something even better. I'm sure that it has to do with all the people telling me how great it was and that it's a must see. The more people tell you how good a movie is, the more you expect and in the end you usually expected more than the movie had to offer. Either way though, I agree with you all, Joker was a job well done. |

I watched Dark Knight, and thought it was a great movie. (saw it opening night so ya, didn't have loads of people telling me how great it was). Joker was very well played, a shame that he won't ever be there again. Considering that the movie takes a diffent turn then the comics and such, I thought they were very well done. Granted, the plot could have used a bit of tweeking, however in truth, if you look at whats happened, youll see. Batman is no the bad guy to everyone for killing Harvy Dent. So he should be hunted. Fox no longer wishs to aid him, because of the whole Phone thing that was used. So, in truth, he has less friends and more enemies. So, there is plenty that went on, and succeeded, such as him setting an example for vigilantees like in the begining of the movie. So, for what it was, I thought it was a phenominal movie, like the first one was. Greatest movie of the year, probly, but thats because I can't think of anything else that played this year.. (i know I went and saw a few movies.. just, none sticking out in my mind.. maybe if there was a list, I could pick them out, but ya.. nothing WOW...) |

Oooh, big bad Batman killed Harvey Dent. I'm sure there was no other way to explain that one away... and I'm sure there were no other witnesses when Dent ran over the entire city killing people. Fox will be working with Batman because the machine was destroyed when he put his name in. So that won't be a problem. And why is it totally fine for a successful vigilante to punish a bunch of inept vigilantes? But I do agree with you that the next movie (if there is one) will have a good setup with Batman actively hunted by the po-9. And there were lots of interesting moral puzzles like whether it is OK to deliberately kill one innocent person to save many (kill this guy or I blow up a hospital...), whether to be Utilitarian or Deontological about your ethical decision making (Batman seems to be a proponent of both at different times), it's just that they taught to the middle of the class, which made a movie which had the potential for greatness but just ended up being better than average. |

Harvey only went around killing the people who he believed had "wronged" him. Sure, some of those people lived, and there were probably a few witnesses, but when there's a press release saying Batman killed those people, most of those "rumors" would be overlooked. Also, you forget that Batman and Gordon didn't know the complete extent of Harvey's damage at the time of the movie; they simply knew he had gone on a revenge path. Batman is already hated by several people, and this plays off that well. He isn't the knight in shining armor. The movie never says that there weren't witnesses to Harvey's revenge path that spoke up. The movie didn't go that far in the future.
I wasn't aware Batman was the knight in shining armor. He's an anti-hero, and he's not perfect, every action he takes isn't going to go hand-in-hand with the actions of an unflawed hero. Batman has an ego, and I’d assume he doesn’t want it to be marred by a bunch of rookies. Also, there's the fact that they are inept, meaning they're just as likely to fuck things up as help. I personally hope there isn't a next movie. As a rule, I try not to get too hyped up about a movie before it comes out. In my experience, nothing ever lives up to the hype. This also brings up a question for all of you: What is your favorite movie? |
