As you guys might have noticed, i haven't been very active these last couple of days. I should have judged Chugman's and Ayon's battle and I should have posted in my own. Also the North Tourney has yet to start. Now, I will judge the battle today, that I can promise. My own battle... well that is up to Dendric. You have the right to say that you have won and that would be fine or you could extend my time so that i can give you another battle post. Whatever you want to do. Depending on what Dendric decides I can start the tourney. If he claims his victory, I will no longer participate in the tourney, but I will make sure that it starts. Now to the actual point of this post. The reason why I haven't been very active lately is because I am working on a new and very different 'Game of Thrones'. It's a work in progress and still needs a lot of time before I'm satisfied and before I am ready to put the game online. Since I am working on this project a lot lately, I haven't really felt like posting much here. That is why I really wouldn't mind losing the battle at Long Lake, then I don't have to worry about my cities and stuff anymore, since I wouldn't stand a chance anymore anyway. I'll continue checking up on the site and I'll try to do the weekly incomes as much on time as possible. If Dendric does give me more time, then I'll stick around a bit longer and will continue to fight for the Boltons, but like I said that will no longer be a priority, because I'm very busy in RL and while working on the new 'Game of Thrones'. So if you have any questions or requests about anything go ahead and post here or send me a PM. I definitely will not stop checking up on the site. ![]() Dire |

Well, whats this new GOT like? I been attempting one similar to this myself, but where I am trying it the format is not very popular. Also, if you put it on, I would be happy to try testing it for you But would still be good to know what kind of game it is ![]() Also, I can understand the busyness. If you went ahead and made apost already, then I will go ahead and keep going. If not, Ill say I won and you would lose your 2 men at arm battalions in accordance to the retreat rules. Guess its down to we three... Ayon, CHugman, and myself... if you quit out. Edited by Dendric Stark, Oct 5 2009, 10:52 AM.

Here's a little text that explains what the new game is sort of about. I'm still working on a lot of details with currency, costs, possible actions, etc. So there's no saying what will actually come out at the end and what it will be like. So here it is: This new "Game of Thrones" puts each player in the position of a Lord. You listen to no one except your Lord Paramount and the King (both of which will be NPCs at first, played by the Admin). Each player may have a slightly different agenda, but the main goal is to become more powerful and to one day maybe even become King. There are several wys for you to gain more power. The first step is clearly to raise your income by building new towns, extra buildings and special units or by any other means you might think of. When you have more monay, you might be able to afford a strong military force that you can use to conquer other towns or you might have enough funds to start planning a political intrigue that could lead to more power as well. At the moment I have a certain picture in my head how the actual game play should take place, I'll try to explain: Each player will have his own sub-forum in which he will post his actions, his plans and any information he might have gathered on other players. Theses sub-forums are only accessible by the player and the Admin. The admin will respond to the players actions letting him know the consequences of these actions. Many actions have a certain success rate and will be rolled out with a random dice roll program. This type of game play will of course minimize PvP. Only when planning intrigues together to overpower someone else or in battle will the player's characters have contact with each other. The game is supposed to be very similar to the actual intrigues from the books, thus not playing with an open hand. Everything is supposed to be more secret and privat, until the entire realm finds out about specific schemes and the change that they bring with them. However, to make up for the loss of player interaction, I am at present thinking about giving a player at least one other character. That character would be a more adventurous type, travelling through the realm as a hedge knight, thief or pretty much whatever you want the character to be. This idea is still very new though and I don't quite know how I'll make that work yet. I hope this givey you all a good picture of what I had in mind. Like I said though, I'm still working on several things involving costs and possible actions. Most of the free time that I have (which isn't much) is going into the construction of this game, so I hope I'll continue making a lot of progress. One step at a time

I had played a game similar to that concept, except instead of Westros it took place during the Three Kingdoms erra. Have you ever played a game called Dynasty Warriors Empire? It has alot of what you are talking about, and if at all possibly, I can help in that sort of game for the creation I was in some ways trying to get this game to a similar stream, due to the fact the open combat and such lead me to think that stratagms didn't work, and as such things like cause riots, spys, support rebels and other such things would have no effect in game terms. |

I've heard of Dynasty Warriors, but I've only played it on gameboy advance. Never played the Empire expansion though. I'll look into it, maybe some of their concepts might help with my ideas. At the moment I'm still working on everything on my own. As soon as I have everything prepared and ready to go on a website, then I'll ask everyone to take a look and give some feedback, criticsm and own ideas. Edited by DireWolf, Oct 14 2009, 05:31 AM.

Alright, well, sounds good. DWE essentally has two phases on a turn... Phase one is the stratagy phase, where you institute... "plans" like searching your country or province for new officers, sending raiders to delay reniforncements during your next attack, and trade, along with crafting new weapons, research ect. There are also options depending if you are a tyrent or benelovent. Tyrents can desecrate gravesites, overtax the people, and things like that to gather funds and soldiers, where as benevolant leaders due things like give to charity, wander around the countryside asking their people wabout their lives and what can be better, ect. I played a board based ver on RPOL, but the GM essentally gave up on the game, and now its deleted. But I still have the site, not sure if anyone else can reach it, ill post the link. But if not, I will go ahead and post some of the big things so you can look at them and use them if you want. http://www.rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=35740&date=1238853805 This is the link to the post of policys: http://www.rpol.net/display.cgi?gi=35740&ti=9&date=1235684278 Edited by Dendric Stark, Oct 14 2009, 12:32 PM.

Direwolf, that sounds like fun, but I have a few questions: 1) Wouldn't it be very hard to do the kind of modding which would be necessary to figure out what everyone's plans are and consistently keep them up to date on their success? I remember how difficult it was to just keep up with modding battles, which was relatively straightforward and quick. 2) Are the players going to go into intricate strategies (with long storylines), or just write plans such as, "I am going to send an assassin to kill Direwolf's general" and then wait to see if it succeeds? I don't necessarily want to write out a huge plan if only one person is going to read it, but it would also be strange if I was able to post hundreds of one sentence plans each day which each had a random chance of success. Would you come up with specific "types" of plans that players could try, and would you set a cap at the amount of plans which a player could try per week (or would this simply be handled by giving each plan a certain cost)? 3) Exactly how much is going to be public? Is there going to be a forum where we can see how much money other people have, how many towns, what plans they have attempted and whether those plans have been successful? All in all, looks like a really interesting concept. I might want to play, it doesnt seem to be quite as time consuming as our old system |

Well, I was thinking that there would be a 'news' update... stating major events.. such as assasination failed when attacking blah, or, Direwolf gathers troops form teh countryside for an army. Things of that nature... |

1) Yes, it will be relatively time consuming. I'm playing a similar game with a different story on a german forum and I know from the admin there that it takes a lot of effort and work to keep the game running smoothly. However I think I'll manage, because of the way everyone is supposed to post their actions. (more to this below, in 2)) 2) First of all, you should know that the game will probably progress one month at a time, sort of like one month in-game being a round. This month or round will than be split up into four weeks, four phases of this round. during these weeks each player will have a certain amount of options. There will be examples of what you can do, like training battalions, sending out spies or assassins. However the player's can also think of other things that they would like to do, they only have to ask my permission first. Of course they will not be able to say what they want to do endlessly. Sending out an assassin takes time and lots of gold (if he's supposed to be any good, like a faceless man). If you send gold to an organization or an ally it will of course take several days or even weeks for it to arrive, depending on where it's sent. As soon as the gold arrives it's destination the organization or ally can do as you ask, for instance send out anassassin. That assassin however will also need time to prepare the assassination and will only have specific success rate depending on the victim and it's security. I've come slightly off the topic of how the months or rounds are set up, but I believe I have mostly answered your second question. I'll add a little more to the phase information though, just to clarify. Basically I want each player to plan an entire month ahead of time. The players are supposed to make a kind of list of what they'll be doing and when during their four weeks of the months. As soon as everybody has posted their plans the admin (that'll be me ) will go through all of them, one week at a time. Each member will be told if his plans succeded and if anything else has happened, for instance if he's received a raven with some kind of message, maybe from another player or an NPC. After the player has received all of the information he will be given a choice. He can choose how to react to the information and/or his succeded or failed attempts. Either he can start planning something new, basically changing his plans for the next days of that week or even the weeks that would follow during that month or he can continue on with what he had planned from the beginning of the month. Mostly, I think, at first the players will stick to one plan during the first months and the moderation shouldn't be too difficult, but later when intrigues really start to grow then it will probably become more strenguous. 3) None of those things will be public. If you want to know what other people are planning and how wealthy they are, tehn you're going to have to send a spy and hope that he isn't caught. Every once in a while there might be certain events that will be known throughout the entire kingdoms. For instance a wildling attack, war between to lords, an assassination attempt on the king or an other well known lord. These kind of things could be mentioned in a 'News of the Realm' forum. So basically what Dendric guessed, but I will always have to decide, maybe even with the role of a die, if such events are important enough for the realm to be talking about it so that everyone knows. I think I've answered all of your questions. If I left something out or if you have any other questions, ask away. The more I write a bout it the more I think and start getting new ideas as well, so this really helps. Thanks!

Oh, I just realised that I left out a part of your second question. You wanted to know how the actions were supposed to be posted.
I would want each player to simply state what he once to do. If he wants to roleplay it out, that's fine too, but absolutley not necessary. Like I said earlier, there won't be a lot of player vs player interactions, so there won't really be any need of roleplaying. That's also why I was thinking about adding a different more free character for every player. A charcter that travels through the kingdoms and can interact with other players. For those character simple plans can also just be posted for me to see, so that I know what you're planning. However most of the things that character does should be posted openly for the other players to read as well. It's supposed to be a kind of entertainment in which you can interact with other players, while you wait for your plans to be processed by yours truly.
