We pre-ordered Rock Band 4, because Harmonix had a pretty good rep, but it was basically an unfinished game. They missed our shipping date by over a month, and despite bragging about how all the DLC would be playable, it wasn't at launch. As of March, they're expected to finally include RB 1, 2 and 3, in addition to the paid-for regular DLC. Rock Band Network, however, is still unsupported. Additionally, it's been a pain in the ass to get everything working together. The capstone was finally getting the surround sound installed in the basement yesterday, only to have Microsoft store down, so I couldn't actually access any of the purchased content on my Xbox. Now, that's not Harmonix's fault, but it nicely sums up the general experience. The new solo system doesn't tweak my fancy - mostly because if I wanted to actually jam, I can jam on real instruments. And the lack of keyboard support (which went largely unmentioned until a few weeks before launch) is a sore point with me. Between the calibration issues, bug fixes, asinine ways of downloading content, and generally all the crap that goes along with an unfinished game being shipped to consumers, I've ended a little bit sour on Rock Band at the moment. Still, we've put the band back together. Nighthawk and his wife are coming out twice a month to jam, along with other random friends at random times. I'm hoping that me and Rock Band can put all this ugliness behind us, because I'm sure Rock Band really does love me. It only hurts me because it cares. |

We got a pretty good soundbar for a good price. It came with rear speakers and a subwoofer and does surround sound really damn well. And I completely forgot about Rock Band because we stored the instruments away! There is a bit more painting that needs to be done so I really shouldn't clutter the living room but I must bring this out once again. I'm assuming the Rock Band content you've already bought on the 360 is transferable to the Xbox One? And if they me to put my old Rock Band disc in the new Xbox, they could convince me to be a return customer again. |

The music transfers over, with an asterisk. They're in the process of porting all the regular disc content onto RB4 (RB2 is the only track list still outstanding) but Rock Band Network purchases are not yet included, either, and there is no guarantee that they will be. To play it one the Xbone, you'll need to buy a $20 dongle for the Xbox 360 instruments to connect to the Xbox One, and a copy of RB4 for the new system. But I also have all the RB3 equipment still, and the 360, so even if you don't upgrade, we can still play the old games together. |
