I just done bought myself a brand spankin' new Switch! Well, actually I did close to a month ago, but haven't really had time to post about it until now. Lemme say, it's really uncanny how they manage to cram such processing power and video capabilities in such a tiny device with a tiny screen. I thought when playing it on its screen (as opposed to the TV) it would have graphics along the lines of the Wii or 3DS, but no, it's awesome. And it looks really good on the TV too. Not to mention the games are a blast, I've been having a hell of a time with Zelda and Mario Kart especially. I've been hesitant to buy latest-gen consoles and PC games for a few years, but this one was definitely a very good investment, especially for its price ($299 in the US, $59 for top-tier games).

$300/$60 is the standard for all consoles but it would likely be suicide for Nintendo to price them over the xbone/ps4 entry levels. I thought they pulled off 1080p with it. You probably have better quality than I have with Zelda on our Wii U. My phone takes 1080p video so they can shove HD into about anything.

I want to get an Xbox One X to play 4k on our tv but the Xbox line up isn't impressive. PS4 seems to have been smarter about that. I think MS finally said they're going to focus on games in 2018.. only several years late. Ugh. We have many console games so I won't get away from that but all our latest purchases have been a gaming PC, VR set, and Steam purchases. I'll keep the xbox one for legacy.

How far have you gotten into the Zelda game? I finally cleared the initial starting area and learned the abilities for Link but haven't really pressed into the new area much. I got excited when I heard the world was larger than Skyrim but then read there weren't many dungeons. Dungeons, puzzles, and the hidden things within were the best part of the series and I've been let down by what I've read that I haven't jumped back into it.

I don't know that the game is necessarily dungeon-light... so far, it seems the main form of dungeoneering is in shrines, and they're all over the place, although they're generally really short. So I guess it's like they have only a few good dungeons spread out over several locations each.

I probably haven't gotten that far for how much I've played. I sure do love to explore the scenery, experiment with the game's interactive possibilities (it's amazing in that regard), find all hidden stuff, kill every enemy around (testing out different strategies for doing so as well), gather ingredients and experiment with cooking, and so on, so I take my sweet time to do storyline quests. So far I've cleared the Kakariko part, but since I kinda rushed there after the stable (only kinda), I think I'm putting the main plot on hold now to putz around a bit more.

Sounds like you're approaching it exactly like I am. The shrines were a disappointment but I understand I was just to nab some powers. I hope they get better. I do like getting rewarded for exploring. The cooking is fun but I'm not enjoying every weapon breaking all the time. It got old really fast.

Yeah, seriously, they break way too much. Then again, I do prefer to use the crappier weapons to beat up the common mobs (which is what I'm doing 99% of the time, so much so that I forget to switch to better weapons/shields for the odd boss or strong monster). One thing that annoys me a lot, while we're on the subject, is inventory limitations. If I'm going to break weapons and shields so often and also find them so often, I really should be able to build up a better stock of those, especially since it's useful to have a variety of options available (at least for melee weapons)...

Agree with you there, too. I just want to push a "Loot Everything" button instead of sorting through the aftermath of every combat. I'm going to pick the game back up today and see if I can make more progress than just exploring.

I got an Xbox 360 when GameStop had a black friday deal so they were essentially free. Then I went to their website and started adding cheap games to my cart for $4.99 each. Checked my cart and it was far lower than it should have been, so I figured out they had a 50% off deal on 4 $4.99 games. So I ended up buying 8 games for $20. I got everything sent to my sister's house since we were supposed to be there for Xmas. Well, we had transmission issues and have been stuck in Kentucky, so my 360 and its games are sitting in North Carolina waiting for me to come get them. I got Skyrim, Mass Effect, Lego Dimensions, and I don't remember what else. I can't wait to get there and set it up, got tons of stuff to play.

I would love to get an Xbox One or PS4 and play Star Trek Online, but that'll have to wait awhile.

Those games can eat up some time in a good way. Be careful with Lego Dimensions. You could end up collecting tons fo sets and levels if you get a kick out of the mash up.

Skyrim alone will suck up hundreds of hours if you're a completionist who loves to explore. ME is great, ME2 is even better so if you like the first you'll definitely want to get the second. Mechanics-wise, ME3 was a nice blend of 1 and 2, but the story just didn't draw me in as powerfully as the first two did.
