I won't spoil it, but I'd practice your slingshot jumps. The final dungeon is...intense.

I found the ability to set your own saves/checkpoints is a nice touch. At first I thought it took away from being able to use the energy explosive attack but coupling it with the healing ability brought it right back.

I didn't grasp the smash or sling ability at all at first. It's so different than any game I've played. Nintendo hasn't made such a good, original game since the NES system. They need to hire these are guys.

I bought a PS4 a couple of weeks ago. All I have for it are Battlefront, Destiny and Fallout 4. My last system was a Wii and Xbox 360 that I didn't play enough, so the jump in graphics is impressive. I've been enjoying Fallout though. I have a love for post-apocalypse stories though.

Do you know if Fallout 4 is considerably better than 3? We've been replaying Fallout 3 and my son has been gushing about the new one. I don't want to just do the same thing over again which is the reason I didn't get Fallout: New Vegas.

I have no idea, never have played any of the previous ones. My friend who is a Fallout fan boy loves it though, so that's something.

I finished Ori. Great game. I even enjoyed all the people complaining online about how hard some of the 'escape' levels were. I didn't think those were the hardest parts though they were lamenting not having a break in the action or save spot. That would totally ruin the point of fast pace escape. Poor millennials. Back in my day we had only three lives and we liked it!

The only thing that I didn't like about the game was that I couldn't go back and try to collect everything. Once you enter Mount Horu, you were locked into finishing the game. After finishing the game, that saved game was locked and couldn't be accessed. Not cool. :tophat:

Back in my day, when you finished a game, it started over from the beginning and you liked it!

I loved Ori. I'm looking forward to playing it again, but I picked up Halo 5 and a game called Two Brothers that looked interesting. Still very disappointed that Halo 5 doesn't support same-console multiplayer or co-op.

But, I've reactivated my Live account for the year, so if anyone wants to do some online gaming, we can try to make something work. I think I'm Bumberhawke on there?

I'm going to put together a master list of our multiplayer games and see where we match up. I know online is the big thing but I much prefer split screen. I also wish I could turn off the foul language. It's fine when I'm alone but I have a decent amount of games that I can't play when the kids are home which limits those games to late night. Really sucks when I want to goof off for an hour during weekend waking hours. We have the whole Gears of War series and I started playing co-op campaign with my oldest son. Found the option to turn off 'strong language' which I thought was great. Nothing changes except the words are skipped over in audio dialogue and CC is edited with asterisk. My poor son has been asking for all the new Call of Duty: Black Ops games and it's a constant No. You'd think more game designers would notice this issue. I'm sure a good bit of them have a kid or two.

There's a free trial to download Brothers: Tale of Two Sons. I so wanted this to be co-op to let my two boys play and bond together. It looks like part of the intended difficulty is controlling both sons with the one controller. I'll see if I can find time to play the trial. Mostly good user reviews with most of the negative ones being with a buggy/bad PC port.

Another thing I have noticed: Many user reviews are better than these 'professional' reviews. They're short; very much to the point and taken as a whole give a much better impression of a game. Many of them actually complete the game before posting a review. I always looked at user reviews of movies but many of them are dumb.

That first paragraph is the reason I stuck with Nintendo for so long. They were never trying to cater to the obnoxious, violent and abusive sub-demographic of 'hardcore' gamers, and the games reflected family-friendly best. But...they lost me with the hardware! I'm hardcore enough to not like the gimmicks!

I've still got my 360 hooked up, too, so we can play any old games, too!

I sold my 360 and upgraded to a PS4, mostly so I could play Destiny with friends. I've only got Destiny, Fallout 4, and Star Wars: Battlefront. And I had to download Goat Simulator. Its the only game my wife will play. I actually haven't played Fallout as much as I'd like to, mostly because I'm so tired by the time I get home from work that I don't have the energy to play anything. And I suck at FPS.

I really had fun playing Ori. I hope they push it a bit more in the direction of the original Metroid. It had a similar experience with a great modern take on story and style. I'd like the areas to bit a bit more of a puzzle. The abilities took button timing pretty far. I wouldn't want that portion to get more complex.

I need to get a new 'Box. The 360 I bought from Xerxes when he needed the money is dying and I'm afraid the DVD drive is going to start eating disks. Not to mention the inability to login into Live. Messed around with that for a couple months before he says "yeah, it's modded so can't go online with it." Anyone know if the One is fully compatible with 360 games or is it the same stupid crap shoot of whether or not they built an emulator for your favorite older game?

On a happy note, Steam had their Steam Link on sale for $15. DDO with the hi-res installation looks awesome on my 42" tv. It works great except I definitely need to build a gaming specific computer to have in the living room as the wireless just doesn't have the bandwidth even on the 5.4Ghz. In their defense, the paperwork does say ethernet is recommended, and when you test the network connection it tells you ethernet would be better.

I haven't tried any of the emulated games, tbh. At this point, a significant portion of the 360 library is emulated. A full list is available here. Plus a few additional games were released on actual game disks, like the Halo Master Chief collection.

I've only read one review of the emulation, and that was very early on when Halo Reach was emulated. The Ars Technica consensus was "it's amazing they can actually emulate a near-gen game like this, but you're experience will be much better on the original system".

Man, if they could take the puzzle portion of difficulty as far as they did button timing...

All my 360 games play fine on Xbone. Or at least all the ones I've tried, which is close to 20 of them. So far they've all played perfectly. I'm currently playing the original Bioshock and Skyrim, while the boys keep fetching older games off the shelf too.

I suggest opting for the biggest HD you can get. It appears all the new games require a download/update and installation now. Your older games will need to ported to the HD as well for emulating.

For whatever reason, we got Mortal Kombat X. It's as good as the last Street Fighter we got for the 360 but with gratuitous amounts of gore. The gore really amuses me because a special move will crack open the opponent's skull, snap his neck and then shatter the spine.. then he hops back up and we get back to fighting since it doesn't always deplete full health.

"'Tis but a flesh wound!"

I was thinking about holding off until the 360-X comes out to pick up a Bone cheap but I've heard Microsoft is going to offer a $250 trade-in so the bones may turn into a rarer commodity than usual.

I'm getting tired of cycling consoles. If they keep supporting One, I'll stick with what I have.

I agree. The problem is they know once no new games are being made for it you're going to give in and buy the newer gen.

We're half migrated to Steam. They'll lose a customer once they stop releasing for Xbone. Before then, I'll be tired of this laptop enough that I'll buy another to handle the games I want and call it a business expense.

Steam is great. I honestly don't think I could give up my Steam Controller now. I profess to also liking GOG.

The only video game system I have now is a 3ds xl. I want to get a new system, but I'm not sure what to get. Money is tight since we are starting our journey today. I could get a 360 E now for about $70, but I think I'll hold off until I can afford an Xbox One.

The Xbox One S is a smaller version of the Xbox One which may serve you better in your smaller living space.

On the horizon is PS4 Neo and Project Scorpio. Neo is the latest version of PS4 and I'm guessing will be available so games can be made for 4k. Project Scorpio is the codename for the new Xbox that, if reports are to be believed, far more powerful than even the Neo by at least 40%. Microsoft appears to be trying to get an edge over the PS as Sony has had over the Xbox. Both companies say all One and PS4 games will be playable on the new consoles. So buying an Xbone now won't hurt you in the long run. The current consoles are only 3 years old so I'm guessing they're switching to updating hardware releases to keep up with technology without pissing off customers. The hardcore gamers will feel like they have to buy but I don't think the more casual gamers will be coerced (my fingers are crossed anyhow).

The Wii U is blah. We only play a few things on it. If it wasn't a gift to the kids, we'd never have gotten it. On the plus side, the new Zelda has a world bigger than Skyrim by a significant amount. On the bad side, there's no major releases for it coming at all. Nintendo has a new system in the works as well. The Wii U being the worst selling Nintendo Console, I think it has one foot in the grave now.

Breath of the Wild? It's absolutely gorgeous. I don't have any dogs in the console race, I've just spent way too much time in Breath of the Wild (and Splatoon 2) for the Switch. I've also heard Arms is pretty fun, and I've put in some good time into Mario Kart too. The Switch and DS are the only consoles I've bought in several generations, likely because I am what they call a "casual"

Yeah, saw the Xbox One X I think its called, and no way in hell I'm paying $500 for a console. I just can't afford it. I will likely get a S in the coming months though. I assume a bunch of people will be selling theirs when the new one comes out in November. I was tempted with the PS4 slim, I forget what its called, but I don't want the pro either. I don't have a 4K TV and probably won't for awhile, so I don't need the extra power it has. Both have expandable hard drives though, but the Xbox has an option to add an external. I'm not sure if the PS4 does at this point.

One thing I like about the Xbox One S over the original is the integrated power converter and the ability to play games with the console on its side. It would fit perfectly in my media cabinet.
