Lego is killing it with licensed products. With all the birthdays and holidays, I have seen Lego sections in large box stores grow quite large. Lego has large, dedicated sections in some. They have their own success with animal themes, traditional city sets, Ninjago and other sets. Still, most of it is Star Wars, LotR, Hobbit and other huge licenses. Competitors have stormed in with Halo sets and all sorts of other things.

Since Hasbro went the route of Marvel (strong IP spread over multiple levels of product), they have been pushing into the block market with Kre-O. A toy company with their own strong IP would seem to work well. The initial push is with Transformers and GI Joe Kre-O sets. They were smart enough to use Dungeons and Dragons to label their fantasy sets. I haven't looked at all the sets but D&D is comes as an interactive game as well as block building. It appears they're bought in cases which you can keep the sets in. I can't tell if it's just the same cardboard box as other sets or something better. Here are the D&D sets. Yes, there are stupid pop ups that aren't ad blocked trying to get you to play the games. Annoying.
