You mentioned a while back that you were playing DCUO on your PS3. Have you tried it on the pc at all and if so how well did it work for you. I can't seem to get it to respond to keyboard controls at all except for the ESC key and all I can do with the mouse is browse through the options screen that ESC pulls up. And having to hold down the right mouse button to get a pointer is annoying.

Any chance that it's communicating primarily to your controller for you PC instead of the keyboard? It appears it was made to be used very well with a controller too.

It wasn't responding at all to the controller (360), after unplugging and rebooting there was no change. I was hoping it might like the 360 controller but wasn't surprised it doesn't since the game is by Sony. And yes, it does appear that keyboard commands are enabled in the game options.

Got it working now. Apparently just selecting the option to turn off joystick control was not enough, I had to physically disconnect my Logitech Force 3D Pro. After that every thing appears to be working normally.

So far the game is... interesting, but I can understand why regular players at CO prefer it over DCUO. CO gives you more control over your appearance and seems to have more flexibility in building your character as well. I could be wrong on that part, time and more playing will tell.

I went ahead and paid for 3 months membership so I could make an honest comparison with CO and try out multiple character types.

I like the movement powers in DCU. You have Flight, Acrobatics, and Superspeed. Flight is obvious, won't bother describing it. Acrobatics gives you accelerated running, the ability to climb ANY surface, and gliding with a constant loss of altitude so you learn to love the high buildings. Superspeed lets you run really fast (duh!) and the ability to run on vertical and even upside down surfaces but if you stop for more than a second you fall. But that's okay because there's no falling damage in this game, you just land with a loud thud in the classic Iron Man landing pose. You can also upgrade flight or acrobatics to fly much faster for traveling long distances, don't know about superspeed. One thing I like doing since there's no falling damage is screaming down toward my landing point at high speed and cutting off flight just before hitting the surface.

DCU is much clickier than CO. While CO's basic attack is constant whenever you're not using another attack and it has plenty of maintain powers (hold button to keep doing damage until timer runs out), DCU requires a click for every attack and tends to have more combos than Mortal Kombat. These combos utilize the left and right mouse buttons. "But Andrul," you say, "there couldn't be that many combinations with just two buttons could there?" Yes Timmy, there can. You do combinations of tap and holds, and the combos can change depending on which power you just activated! Interestingly, I waded through early bbeg encounters of equal level without difficulty, but now I'm finding it hard to solo encounters 3 levels lower without dying at least once. This is a bummer since each of the solo story encounters includes a feat for getting through it without using any healing and another for not dying.

This post is getting rather long. I'll go into costuming at a later time.

This makes it out like CO doesn't have them. Or are they better implemented in DCU?

The combos and twitch clicking is popular with some people. I'm with you in that I don't enjoy it as much. I do like how LotRO has combos for groups as it adds a little flare without happening constantly. I haven't gotten into other new MMOs so I really only have EQ2 and LotRO to go on. I'm not sure having to do combos often would be fun for me. I like having abilities work off of other ones and being able to mix up different strategies with abilities. If DCU leans on figuring out combos and spamming them, I'm not sure I'd continue to have fun in repetitive combat.

CO has a myriad number of movement powers when you consider the different visual effects. Narrowed down to mechanics you have flight, superspeed, acrobatics, tunnelling, and teleportation. Oh, and the newest mode, gliding. neither acrobatics or superspeed allows you to climb vertical surfaces like DCUO. On the plus side, CO movement can have ranks put into them to increase their speed, DCUO allows you to put a single power point into them to increase their speed but you have to press the numlock while moving to activate it. Very fast, a bit cumbersome to activate unless you have the PS3 controller. It uses a button that doesn't have a corresponding button on the xbox controller. You can list all the combos but who can remember them all? As far as the clicky, that's a major point that keeps it from being a true contender for top billing for me. I'll continue to play for the three months I paid for then let it lapse back to free and choose which two I'll keep active. And maybe I'm just blind but the store is pretty skimpy without all the great doo-dads that CO displays to coax your money out of you.

Maybe they're trying to figure out free play still. Turbine is the most successful so I'd expect some imitation while they better figure out the customers. Unless they've been f2p for awhile and then a bare store is a bad sign.

It may be I'm just looking in the wrong places. But I'd expect some kind of in-game store interface of which I've yet to find anything.
