As I'm sure everyone has heard by now, the Megaupload website has been pulled down for illegal activity. Interestingly, since that has happened there has been stories cropping up about how the owner is a real a-hole who was known for cheating in online fps's like Quake and would ban opponents who actually won against him. Maybe these stories are true, maybe not. I don't recall having ever heard of his supposedly notoriously villainous ways before now. Of course, I'm usually too busy playing video games or looking for good free porn to pay much attention to such things.

The Anonymous response has been interesting to me. Like the opening skirmishes of a potential internet war.

This proves SOPA is unnecessary. Looks like the current laws work well enough.

If Anon gets its way, they will go for a 'utopian' internet where might makes the rules and then steal innovation and finance out of existence.

The rest of us are stuck between the idiocy of losers and that of idiot government.

From what I've heard about SOPA unofficially, it appears it would not only have allowed them to shut down megaupload but also their ISP and any website on which a user had linked to them.

If it touches copyrighted material, then SOPA can touch it back. And not in the fun way.
