If you like to read sci-fi and fantasy this blog by David Brin lists a whole bunch of very good ones. It states for young adults but frankly older adults will like them as well. I honestly never thought of series such as Song of Fire and Ice, and Foundation as being for teens :D http://davidbrin.blogspot.com/2011/11/science-fiction-for-young-adults.html Edit: corrected link Edited by Andrul, Nov 11 2011, 09:04 AM.

That's a great list. It looks like he separates teen from young adult. Younger kids have recommendations like Golden Compass and Coraline. Teens get Dune. A couple things I really like about his listing. First he has Jules Verne which is classy. Second, he drops the name of a single good book by each good author to set people on a path to find more. That is how a good listing should work. None of that "Top 10" or "Best of..." stuff. |

Now you have a whole arsenal of recommendations for your kids other than HP and Twilight to get them interested in reading. Although I suspect you may have Gorefist reading LotR soon because of his interest in the video game. |
