Trinary (Ternary) computers

I mentioned trinary computers in the Toyota thread and it got me searching to see what happened. It turns out the Russians built one in the 50's and upgraded the design in the 70's but by then the binary model was firmly established. Apparently the ternary design was more efficient, requiring less electrical power and calculating faster than its binary brethren.
