The Canucks played Toronto. It was painful to listen to the (Torontonian) colour commentator on CBC, since he spent his entire time trash talking Alex Burrows. It was always "The Sedins are amazing, and Burrows sucks". It certainly didn't help that Vancouver got down 3-0 in the first period either.

So it was especially delightful when Alex Burrows scored a (league leading fourth) short-handed goal to start the Vancouver rally, adding assists on three goals before sealing the deal with an empty netter and earning first start honours. A decent night, I suppose, for a glorified checker that can barely play at the NHL level. Even better, Andrew Raycroft (former Toronto goalie who was told to take a hike by Toronto) got the win for Vancouver, stopping every shot Toronto sent his way after coming in to relieve Luongo for the second period.

Suck it, Toronto! Oh, yeah, baby. Nobody sucks like you.

Wait, wait, wait...

The Canucks went down 3-0 to Toronto? Look, I don't care how the story ends, you should probably just be embarrassed.

We could have been, had it not been for 5 unanswered goals in the third period. That made the victory even sweeter, because the biased announcer thought Toronto might actually win a game.

All I'm hearing is "The Canucks gave up three straight goals to Toronto, and Lance wasn't on DDO."

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

He's probably gone to some other country in hopes of bowing before their emperor.

That was a good post. Got to rub it in that the Leaf's suck to my brother in law. The other night we watched them go down in flames against the Devils in OT after they miracously tied the game in the last 2 minutes.
The Leafs don't suck as much anymore. The newly fired Calgary GM traded a huge batch of good his players for a huge batch of potential suck from the Leafs. The Leafs proceeded to beat the living crap out of the NJ Devils while the Calgary fell apart.

Atlanta did trade their top forward to the Devils so they got to beat the crap out of the Leafs in return which let me laugh at my brother in law again. Atlanta got some decent young players and a first round pick. Kovalchuk refused a $101 million, 12 yr deal and the Thrashers weren't going to get him to return so they snagged as much as they could for him. I think Atl came out ahead in the long run, Devils have a potential fix for their playoff showing, Calgary will go to crap and the Leafs may be able to manage something this year.

Crap. I haven't had any hockey news in a week. Calgary became sellers ahead of the trade deadline?

Several teams did. Basically the Leafs and Flames traded half of their teams to each other. The Leafs are suddenly very physical their first game after the trade, starting three fights (mostly Phaneuf). Calgary was flailing after falling out of solid playoff contention and I'm not sure this trade did them enough good.. they did get Leaf players.

Thrashers knew Kovalchuk wasn't going to resign so they gave him away to the Devils and the Devils didn't have to touch their lineup to get him. Atlanta got junior players which are good prospects, nabbed a first round draft pick and swapped 2nd picks with Jersey. Kovalchuk wants 20% of the salary cap and Atlanta didn't want to suffer that. Not sure what the Devils are going to do at the end of the season; I believe their focus is on the short term this season.

Vancouver is said to be in a buying position but only to fill their depth. They like what they have in place. Phoenix is buying but the GM says he won't break up his young core players; too much prospect. Leafs are still open to trading. Toronto won't have any resemblance to the start of the season. I like to see bad teams doing this. Too often they concentrate on saving money rather than pushing the team forward.. which is odd since it's how you make more money. It appears hockey GMs are much smarter than baseball GMs.

The radio said Kovalchuk turned down a hundred mil if he would stay with the Thrashers.

Yeah, it was $101 million for a 12 year deal. He wanted more and I'm curious as to what the Devils are going to do with him in July. Thrashers GM swore to resign him earlier but he wanted a full 20% of the salary cap. He wasn't going to ruin the franchise for one player and I don't blame him. I think he did good with the trade.

Yeah, that was good of Atlanta to unload Kovalchuk. One player cannot do it alone for a team. There are too many good D-players out there to shut a single guy down.

I notice that Vancouver dropped it's last two games against eastern opponents. I am displeased!

You know what occurred to me the other day? It sure will be embarrassing if the Canadian teams don't get the gold or silver in Vancouver this year.

I was told that Team USA is the top contender and Canada is expected to place as well. I think it would be more embarrassing for the US not to place considering we have a greater number of professional teams. It was ridiculous that we didn't win the gold for basketball a couple Olympics ago which shows having the best talent is worthless if they can't work together well (or are too proud).
