I think we wore our treadmill out. :( The motor and tread still turn, but it feels like the frictionless surface beneath has worn out. When you step - particuarly when sprinting - it momentarily catches and bottoms out. Needless to say, it makes running very difficult. It's like running on a sheet of ice at times. I spent an hour last night following the troubleshooting instructions in the manual, adjusting the belt tension as best I could, but the problem only got worse. I'm going to phone tech support and see if there is something more I can do, but I'm not hopeful. |

You'll probably have to get another belt from the sounds of it. If there's no friction, then you've either worn it out or you're in a physics class. And I doubt the latter. |

Lucky. My physics teacher in high school was a jerk, so there was plenty of friction. |

This was one of the 'no maintenance' treadmills - it's got a frictionless sheet beneath the rubber tread. There is some sort of white powdery substance after you run on the treadmill the first few times - the excess residue- but the treadmill itself never requires re-application, according to the manual and website. I think replacing the belt would involve replacing the entire base of the treadmill. Which means we'd just go out and buy another treadmill. This one is over 6 years old and cost us under $1000. It has seen lots of miles and has served us well. It just chose an inconvenient time to die. I doubt we can replace it before our trip, but I'm in a big cardio push to try and shed some pounds. I guess I'll have to find a good course to run outdoors. How ungeekly. :P |
