I'm never going to finish watching Battlestar Galactica

At least, as long as I keep trying to get it from the library. First it took a month before I could get a copy. Then it was lost in shipping between branches. Then I only got to watch the first two discs before I had to return it. Then I had to wait again for another copy. And now the fourth disc in this copy is pretty much unreadable. I'm pretty sure someone decided to drop it and then kick it across the parking lot- repeatedly- rather than pick it up. Bah.

I'm right there with you. We found the first 3 seasons for sale at a deep discount and snapped them up, but balked when they wanted $50-60 each for seasons 4.0 and 4.5. I can borrow them from a friend, but since my Serenity attendance has been so spotty the past several months, we've only managed to catch 4.0 over Christmas. At least we're meeting for Serenity on the 11th this month, and I can swap 4.0 for 4.5 and the ordeal will be over.

Mind you, I'm not sure I'll actually get to watch any episodes before we depart for Japan. But it gives me something to look forward to in March. <_<

Or you could copy them to your laptop and watch them on that LONG flight there and back.

The Japanese customs officials are almost as retarded about potential copyright infringement as the American border officials. I'm not going to have any unnecessary media on my laptop - even when it is media I legally purchased - in case they decide to search the hard drive. I don't want to find myself in a position proving ownership, particularly on a device that doesn't have an optical drive, while preparing to depart on a flight. It's already bad enough the American officials have forced video scanning technology into every airport in the world over a botched terrorist attempt that only partly succeeded due to CIA incompetance.

An excellent theory, save that I believe he mentioned that the intent of the netbook was to take it to Japan, and the netbooks generally lack a DVD drive.

I was hoping that he had cut out someone's eyeballs and was using them as Optical Drives which better explains getting hassled by security.

No, they'll let the eyeballs in a jar through, as long as they're individually packed in under 100ml containers.

And don't try to convince them that you should be able to use a larger bottle, "because the eye isn't liquid, just the packing fluid!" They don't buy into that shizzle for a second, I can tell you.

Eyeballs have very limited data capacity. I'm having difficulty breaking the 512MB barrier even with compression algorithms. Every time I try to increase the capacity they tend to burn out because of the higher voltage needed. And smoking eyeballs smell REALLY bad.
