Sorry, I can't talk, I'm watching the Queen's Christmas Message. I think it's the first time I've actually seen her speak, and not a comedian impersonating her. |

Naw, these days Britain is as much a part of America as Puerto Rico or Canada, and moreso than parts of California. I'm starting to suspect Morgan is psychic. In the 48 hours preceding Christmas, she mentioned she wanted to get two of the three things I bought her as presents. Then, this morning, she said something about how she still wanted to get Arkham Horror at some point. Guess what I got her for her birthday. Edited by Kishi, Dec 25 2009, 02:55 PM.

Has she recently reconstructed herself after her atomic structure was rent asunder by an advanced physics experiment and returned as a blue woman? That could be a clue to stop worrying about surprise gifts, and start encouraging her to split into dopplegangers for nookie. |

That would explain a lot. I just thought she was working on her Mystique cosplay outfit for Comicon next year. |

Boxing Day will be awesome. Jenn and I are heading to the pub for breakfast, then to Willow Video to scope out some game deals. Then we'll head over to Nighthawk's place for the afternoon. I'll be bringing the Lagavulin to finish, and I've got a couple 'emergency' Maudites and a La Fin Du Monde. Jenn got to drink uninhibited on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and today it is my turn. |

We were trying to take advantage of Boxing Day from here and purchase via relatives. The actual sales really suck in electronic games. It reminds me of the sucky sales on Black Friday here. If you bought a tv on Black Friday, you better not have been too discerning nor a videophile. We were trying to get a Wii and the deals were not too great. Still no good bundles and any deep discount were on used systems. I figured after buying a used Wii and then paying Canadian taxes, we'd save a whole $10. Then we'd have to buy 2 used games but we already have a game and want to take advantage of separate game sales here such as for Wii Fit. I wouldn't mind at all that the sales were similar to the US but I've bought into the superiority of Canadese and I've been really let down. |

I have celebrated my own Boxing Day by using the Barnes and Noble gift card my in-laws covertly gave me yesterday. Since they were sold out of the Good Eats: The Early Years book I wanted, I got the Pathfinder RPG core instead. |

I found Matrix Revolutions and Stargate on sale for $4 each, so I bought those. We also finally grabbed a legit copy of Final Fantasy advent children, and bought the new Harry Potter. I also discovered that we had been given an Itunes gift card, so I now own the newest Oso Closo album. P.S. - The superiority of Canada works when purchasing from the states. Especially from companies that haven't figured out our dollar is basically on par, and still mark things up 20% more in Canada. Edited by Benevolance, Dec 26 2009, 05:10 PM.

I almost forgot! I got a year subscription to Xbox Live. I have a gift card to Gamespot and plan on taking advantage of their used game sale of buy 2 get 1 free. Would anyone have access as well and want to compare games to co-op or kill each other on? I want to get Left 4 Dead and Call of Duty: World at War for the multiplayer co-op. It would be swell if I could discover someone else with one of those. |

Matrix Revolutions? Does Boxing Day have some masochistic qualities to it in Canada? Morgan and I went out today and found a copy of season one of Kids in the Hall on DVD at the used bookstore for $11, so I count that as a big win. And we got the Doctor Who Christmas special taped off BBC America, so we'll get to watch that tomorrow. |

Some people will purchase the bad episodes of a series just to have the complete set. Notice he waited until it was only $4 so you can't be too harsh on him. |

Was just at Gamespot. Xbox 360 Elite is going for $299. Pro is going for around 260 and the Arcade is going for 199. I'm not sure if I corrected myself but the Arcade doesn't need the extra gigs unless you start downloading demos, arcade games or expanded game content. It'll hold plenty of saved games with no worry. I know the PS3 has dropped its price down to 299 as well but lacks the various "editions" to snag at cheaper prices. The Wii is still $299 unless there's a gimmick bundle which has to suit your needs or not worth it (you come out paying more due to buying used games and/or cheap plastic pieces that merely hold the Wii-mote). |

The wii is still $299 there? It's going for $169 or $189 or something like that at a lot of stores here this week. Of course, you still have to buy extra controllers and all that jazz, but that's the same on every system these days. It's tempting us to buy a Wii, even though we're really not sure we'd have time to use it.

Awesome, I should have Pathfinder on Wednesday. Amazon may beat them for prices, but Barnes and Noble's got way better free shipping. Stupid Amazon, taking a week to ship something ten *#&$ing miles... I know where there warehouse is! I could drive down there and pick it up in 15 minutes! Sorry, I'm just bitter. There's a part of me that really would love a Wii, but when you get down to it I'm much more likely to get use out of a PS3. I can't argue with a BluRay player *and* the fact that it'll let me stream Netflix. I'll just have to suck it up and wait until I go visit my sisters in Portland to play with the Wii there. Of course, I'm not getting a PS3 anytime soon, either- there's not much point on our five year old, low-def, small TV, and we really need a new bed instead. That was our other fun yesterday, going mattress shopping. Apparently Morgan's Christmas present from her parents is going to be some money to help us get a new mattress, and we found a pretty nice foam mattress that's on a really good sale. |

You can stream Netflix on both consoles, Kishi. Lance: Sorry, the Wii is going for $199 unless you get one of the special sale bundles. We initially thought Toys R Us had a killer deal: a Wii for $100 but you had to buy these plastic accessories and some other things and it shot the total price over $250 so we skipped on it. We were able to get a higher end Sony BD player for $30 so I can live with the 360. Gamespot.com has some side by side graphic comparisons of the newest games that play on each and there is little or no difference. You're probably better off with the PS3 I would think unless you think you're going to miss out on the Xbox exclusives. The one PS3 title I really want was Uncharted and Uncharted 2. Check them out if you get one so I can hate on you. If your one to play multiplayer online, you may want to still consider the 360 as you can fetch one for cheaper and Sony's Home isn't nearly as good as Xbox Live from all the user and critic reports I have read. Do you research because what appeals to one isn't a necessity to others. I exchanged a awesome winter coat Elmira got me (too small) for a more awesome one today. The various game stores were slammed because of the buy 2/get 1 free deal but I was able to nab CoD: Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead and Far Cry 2 plus Gamestop membership (discounts) and year subscription to Game Informer for the price of one game and my xmas gift card. That nets me two fantastic co-op games. I still would like to get Resident Evil 5 because it's a good co-op and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Both are already selling pre-owned. I saw Star Wars: Force Unleashed going for $20 already. Maybe not much in replay value. Edited by lgm, Dec 27 2009, 07:59 PM.

Really, I have little or no interest in an XBox 360, so my choice is between the PS3 or the Wii. |

Zerxes wasn't very impressed with the PS3 when he got the chance to observe one at a friend's house. His primary complaint was not being able to watch downloaded movies. He did say maybe it just needed to be updated online. He did say the system interface is a little bit easier to navigate than the 360. |

But you get useless avatars on the 360 now!!!! Really though, all the navigating I do is one button push to play my profile. Online play is via the game beyond initial setup. I don't know how much easier one can make scrolling with analog stick for the other stuff. Kishi, take ten minutes to browse each game section. You'll know real fast if you want a Wii or ps3. Wii is very limited beyond Mario, zelda and Wii fit. If a game is on both systems, it will be much better on the ps3. Having said that, we will have a Wii next year for my 5 yr old and party/family games and I'm looking forward to it. Edited by lgm, Dec 27 2009, 11:58 PM.

I have yet to play any game on the 360 much aside from Rock Band. I recently realized I was in the middle of Assassin's Creed and Gears of War, but I just can't convince myself to pick the controller back up. I've got Resident Evil 5 waiting - maybe that one will be better. But man, we've played the hell out of Rock Band. |

I still play GoW repeatedly when Auduma is over because of the co-op and good enemy AI. I did pick up a few additional co-op games so I may trade it back in. Good news is there is more focus on co-op games these days and developers have picked up on that. My next game will probably be Borderlands which is awesome full campaign co-op in a sandbox world. Can't get much better than that! I wanted to check out Resident Evil 5 myself because I heard the co-op was good in that and it carried the good of the franchise into a new game. I found a friend with the 360 who plays CoD: Modern Warfare 2 online so I'll be signing up for Live gold shortly. One thing I had completely forgotten about was how great Live's Arcade was. There is a tremendous amount of games that seem suited for you such as Galaxy Wars and various other puzzle games. There are games that are evolved Tetris that have left it in the dust. Many are small time programmers which are creating innovative small games by themselves and many are gathering great attention from gaming mags. I think the Wii suits you for the party games but you may enjoy buying from the Arcade for games you won't find in stores. |
