Since Auduma is not responding to my queries, does any of the Atlanta crew know whether his computer can handle the following? Minimum: •Windows XP SP2 / Vista •1.8 GHz Single-Core Processor •512 MB Available System Memory (1 GB for Windows Vista) •128 MB 3D Video Card (GeForce 6600 / Radeon 9600) •DirectX 9.0c or Later •2 GB Hard Disk Space •Broadband Connection for Internet Multiplayer •Sins of a Solar Empire (Full Version) •Impulse client software for download/install/updates. Recommended: •2.2 GHz Dual-Core Processor •1 GB Available System Memory (2 GB for Windows Vista) •256 MB 3D Video Card (GeForce 7800 / Radeon x1600) * Impulse must be installed in order to download and update software. |

I don't have the specifics but based on the way he moans about it he's got a 386 with 4 MB ram, a 1 MB ATI video card and a 120MB hard drive. |

He is lacking these minimums. On the upside, he'll be getting a laptop for college. It sounded as if my parents were going to get it before Christmas due to sales so he may be in shape to play within the year. I saw the stats of some of the ads they were looking at and he would be above recommended levels for Sins. If he had a 386, he wouldn't be able to surf the web :P |

I was able to run Sins on our old computer, which (I think) wasn't up to the full processor speed it says was required, but it ran alright there anyway. I did go buy it from Impulse yesterday, so I'm going to have to start practicing again. Edited by Kishi, Nov 27 2009, 01:08 PM.

A 386 could surf the web, just not very quickly or with full content :) |

For $20 for game + expansion, it was an awesome deal. Nighthawk and I ran a practice game over the Hamachi adapter on Wednesday and it worked just fine, so we know that Kishi will be able to join in. Speaking of which, we've been sticking to the regular Wednesday night games. But with Auduma MIA, Nighthawk and I have been practicing SoaSE instead of Conquerors. Feel free to jump in with us. We're usually starting around 7pm Pacific time. |

We were pinging you on Hamachi the other night. But no responses. We crushed an alliance of the Advent and TEC in your honour, absent Comrade, but conquering an alliance of European powers would have probably been faster. |

Sadly, I will not be online tonight. I have a bachelor party to attend. And the rest of my weekend will be studying. But next Wednesday! I will be gaming with a vengeance and/or drowning the memories of my academic failures with copious amounts of alcohol. |

Okay, I just made sense of that. And if I'm inferring correctly...you've forgotten your router password? |

I think you puzzled it out. In an attempt to derail, I still put forth that a 386 is not capable of surfing even the web. To manage web sites you need a somewhat current browser. A 386 couldn't handle IE or Firefox enough. My parents are still using an ancient PC that is light years beyond a pentium 1 and it can't surf the web worth a damn because of software constraints. I really need to come up with something less serious to derail threads. |

I mostly agree with you, having had a 386 in the earlier days of the internet. At the time, it struggled with anything more complicated that Telnet, but it did handle the earliest version of Netscape Navigator. The problem was...you were connecting to the interet with a 14.4 modem. It was brutal. Nowadays, I seriously doubt that a 386 could handle the load, even if you could get it online via a highspeed connection. Webpages have simply bloated to the assumption that everyone is on highspeed, and has a semi-decent computational engine. I think I already looked up his router password for him once before, actually...or was it you? I can't remember. :D |

A text only browser isn't surfing. It's closer to drowning. I think I'd have seizures if I had to resort to Telnet again. Lance: I think you helped him with his router as well as helping me. My problem ended up being the router was female and I had to wait a week. |

8 to 10 minutes to download one small, grainy pic. I was still running a 9600 modem when the 54k's came out :) |

Is this a "your parents want to limit your access to the internet and so didn't give you the router password" scenario, or is it a "nobody really is sure quite how it works and it's probably still the default password" scenario? :) |

It's a "my brother set up the network and he has it, but my parents and I don't" situation. The password gets automatically entered when I turn on my PC, but I can't get onto the internet with my laptop (and the maternal figure cannot go online on her new computer either). It could possibly be a default one. |

That shouldn't be difficult to set up. Although...are the computers in your house hard-wired to the network or do they all connect wirelessly? By password, do you possibly mean the WEP key encryption? Because normally, if you plug a computer - any computer - into a residental router with a hard-wire line, Windows will auto-detect and you'll get online. |

Just for clarity, the brother isn't me. It's the well paid network administrator one that doesn't leave passwords or demonstrate how it is connected. I'd talk behind his back more but he's going to provide me with a large enough flash drive and help me clone a hd while we do some hd swapping. We should have both PCs running well after this weekend... *should*. We'll get back into DDO once again. |
