My father worked a rotating shift for years where he'd change shifts from days to evenings to nights, etc... every 6y weeks. I have no idea how he did it since just trying to get back on a day schedule after 3 months is nearly killing me. Any suggestions for staying awake all day that doesn't include consuming huge quantities of caffeine? I've tried and all I get is a big headache and nausea. |

When I was alternating between late night and early schedules in university, I would skip one night of sleep entirely. Then the next night, crash into bed early and get 12-14 hours of sleep. It usually reset my internal clock. Do you normally have much caffeine during your normal daily routines? You shouldn't need a whole lot to keep you awake, unless your body is pretty acclimatized to the drug. |

The body acclimitizes more easily by staying awake longer than trying to sleep earlier, so I agree with Lance that you are far more likely to reset your clock by pulling a single all nighter, then following a regular pattern after that. |

Did you do that when you travel to Japan, Lance? I was talking to my brother today about his time being screwed up when he shipped to Okinawa. The Marines didn't give him much options to adjust. |

Sort of, although we didn't really need to pull an all nighter, because we were losing a day in the travel. But we made certain to stay up until a 'reasonable' bedtime hour the first night, and we woke up the next morning pretty close to Osaka time. |

Thing is I'm sleeping fine at night, but the body is still going "Oh, it's 11am so time to sleep!" |

That might be diet related, then. |
