My bad, it was James Caan. And I think it was a book I saw and read the back cover that was about the lethal football stuff. Still, I'm uncivilized enough I'd probably pay to watch that as long as they weren't using slaves or prisoners. |

In the original movie, the game was designed to show the futility of individual effort and the fragility of man. The game shot an iron ball out of a cannon along the track, where it was retrieved by a catcher from the first team to reach it (at a safe velocity). The track was sloped, and motorcycles were used to pull players around the track faster, and to bring players back up the slope more quickly. And the players were armoured and spiked, and tried to kill each other, while stuffing the metal ball into a goal that was roughly the size of the ball. The original suffers from some dated effects at times - I mean, the costumes and everything were done in the 70s, after all - but for the most part it holds up decently well because it doesn't try to make the future...well, too futuristic. And there isn't actually a lot of action in the original. The guts of the movie is the social commentary. |

That is what completely separates it from the remake. I watched the trailer of the newest and it had nothing to do with social commentary and everything to do with trying to appeal to ticket sales. |

I am slowly getting my new PC configured with the various media programs I had liked. Pretty soon I will get back to encoding my media library. I like to keep a bunch of the more frequently watched films and series encoded to AVI on my media PCs. It saves having to dig out the disk, and the quality isn't so much an issue because these shows are usually put on in the background. Coming soon to a theatre near you. |

What's the difference between the Toronto Maple Leafs and a triangle? A triangle has three points. |

I've been following my Falcons slowly deteriorate while having phenomenal talent. I need catch myself back up on the standings and such. I hope I can still mock Torontonians this January. Will the Vancouver vs Atlanta game be like watching two retards fight? |

Maybe Atlanta should set their sights on overcoming a more appropriate target, first. I hear Toronto is looking for adversaries. |

So far, Phoenix is kicking ass in hockey. Oh, they're doing okay on the ice, but they're also winning in the real interesting game- keeping the Coyotes from going back to Canada. "Judge Baum has sent Balsillie to the penalty box for two minutes for attempted Checking from Behind on the Board of Governors. Phoenix is on the power play and- goal, with an assist from the NHL!" |

Oh, I just noticed that the Coyotes have a student discount for tickets if you show up at the box office an hour before puck drops. Okay, I'm going to have to take advantage of that. I'll have to see if someone will go with me, since Morgan's expressed absolutely no interest in watching hockey. Oh well. |

Her preference is probably for a more sophisticated violence over what hockey provides. Has she ever been to a game? I can't stand to watch it on tv for more than a couple minutes. Being at a game is full of awesome. More so if you snag some good seats at center ice. When the IHL league Knights were in Atlanta, I went to tons of games where it was easy to fetch center ice right on the glass. Phenomenal, I say. |

This is where you have to use your diplomatic wiles to effect a paradigm shift of her entertainment boundaries. So get her really drunk and take her to the game. |

Instead, I've spent the past few years slowly conditioning her to turn her into a baseball fan. You know, the American pastime? What are we, Canadians? :) It's taken quite a lot of time, but it's really been successful. Really, if I can get my friends Liz and Timm to come with me to a game, there's a decent shot I could convince Morgan to come, too. Edited by Kishi, Dec 8 2009, 02:59 PM.

I'd like baseball better if the Braves weren't losing Bobby Cox as manager AND Chipper Jones in the same year. Also if they weren't sucking. |
