I installed iTunes again. The Japanese Pod 101 podcasts had a huge library archive of lessons and PDF materials, and iTunes apparently has a feed catcher feature that enables a person to download the entire backlog automatically. I didn't like the program before. The program is a bloody resource hog and it is invasive. It is constantly trying to get me to switch program affiliations. I didn't find the user interface very intuitive. Maybe it's better for Mac users, but they're already dumb. Anyway, insult to injury. iTunes truncates the podcast titles in the windows file directories. And it doesn't actually save the podcasts with the file name associated with the download, but it's own naming schema. Nor does it save the official release date, but the file created date. Which, oddly enough, were all the same day I downloaded them. In short, sorting the files for use outside of iTunes is a complete bitch. It's all golden inside iTunes. But I'm not into self flagellation. |

I tried using iTunes for a few days on my new computer, under my theory that, hey, this thing's got a lot of memory, it should work okay. It did, but I still hated the program, so I'm back to Winamp. Unless I had an iPod, I wouldn't iTunes- I like Amazon's music store better than Apple's anyway. |

Amazon's music store is great...if you live the the States. They won't sell in Canada. At least Apple has a leg up there. I'm still a winamp stalwart for playback. Jenn's got some alternate pod catchers that will apparently work with an iTunes feed. |

Phew! Having downloaded all the backlog of episodes, I unsubscribed from Japanese Pod for the time being. And that meant I could uninstall iTunes. Yay! |

I was recently given a 5th gen iPod. Unfortunately, you need iTunes to load music on it unlike other, smarter players that just require you to copy the music onto them using Explorer. I am now in the process of importing some of my cd's nto itues so I \can listen to them on the nano while at work. The folks at Apple sure are full of themselves. Boy, 8 gigs sure is a lot of cd's! |

Rough estimate is 70 hours of music on an 8gig ipod. Time to hook up my exsternal drive and grab more songs. Also, trying to figure out how to rip dvd's into itunes so I can watch them on the nano. It's supposed to be possible but Help is quite vague on the subject. |

What bitrate is that encoding the music at? Hmm. I use DVD decrypter to rip my DVDs, but that probably won't help you upload onto a Nano. |

I'll ask Jenn if she has any advice. If anyone knows how to skirt technological boundaries, it's her. And since she's been playing with her iPod touch, I'm sure she's come up with all sorts of goodies. |
