If you're doing a Ham, try Ginger Ale. It works like Coke or Dr. Pepper for Beef, but the flavour is more suitable.

Also, the Dr. Pepper alcoholic version is half beer, half coke, with a shotglass of Amaretto dropped in. Chug.

The shochu martini was very mediocre at best.

I didn't include the 5 spice side car in this thread.

5 spice side car
1.5 oz orange brandy
1.5 oz sweet and sour
0.5 oz sake
1/4 orange and lemon
Chinese 5 spice

Muddle the fruit in the bottom of your shaker. Add the liquids and a dash or two of 5 spice. Shake vigorously and strain into martini glasses. Delicious! Much tastier than sucking DOOGH.

We have a couple bottles of Doogh sitting the 'fridge. We were supposed to let everyone taste it the last time we gamed but forgot to bring it out.

The pre-mix drinks were awesome. It was nice to finally put the decanters to good use. We had Greek Martinis and 5 Spice Side cars on the go, and fresh mandarin oranges to muddle with the Sidecars. Both drinks are absolutely top-notch crowd pleasers.

I especially liked not having to mix anything for guests once the party got going; that's a useful trick to keep in mind in case you should start drinking at 11 am for your next Lan party.

An Airborne tablet and edible gold glitter? Interesting...

The Drunken Moogle has some interesting-sounding video game-based recipes, too, but I haven't tried any of them.

Hey, I just realized I haven't posted any drinks here in a while! Here is the chocolate martini I serve at home:

Chocolate Martini
3 oz vodka
2 oz white creme de cacao
Garnish with a cinamon stick. Use the stick to swirl the drink, then let sit a minute or two to infuse. Enjoy!

I usually use my own vodka infusion - I infused a bottle of vodka with chocolate mint oolong tea - when making the chocolate martinis, but regular vodka will do in a pinch. It ends up being caffeinated, too. Yum!

Nice. Now that Elm can drink a little again, I'll pass this along to her. She's a chocolate monster.

If she gets the Godiva chocolate liqueur, it's a creme-based liqueur and is delicious. You can mix the vodka and the Godiva roughly 1:1, but instead of the cinnamon stick, I'll usually garnish with shaved white chocolate. Then the vodka infuses the chocolate shavings at the bottom of the martini glass and you get to finish your drink with chocolate vodka sludge. It's soooo good.

Hey Lance, came across this and thought you might be interested. Apparently alcoholic popsicles are gaining popularity.

Bourbon peach pops

Makes 6-8 popsicles

1/2 pounds very ripe yellow peaches
6 tablespoons sugar, divided
2 ½ tablespoons bourbon
1 tablespoon lemon juice

1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Cut an x on the bottom of each peach. Blanch peaches 1-2 minutes, rinse under cold water and slip off skins. Cut peaches in chunks and place in a large bowl.

2. Add 5 tablespoons sugar, the bourbon and lemon juice. Mash, then whisk until well combined. Add sugar to taste.

A bit of peach schnapps rubbed into the gums of a teething baby does wonders as a pain reducer.

I picked up a bottle of Lillet Blanc. Previously, we'd been substituting dry vermouth for the lillet in the Vesper cocktail. The result was okay, but we were hard pressed to see why James Bond favored those cocktails. The lillet profoundly changes the tone of the drink.

Since I was mixing from memory, I used 1.5 oz Vodka, 1 oz gin, 1/2 lillet, two dashes orange and angostura bitters, with a zest of lemon for garnish. The actual recipe calls for 3oz gin, 1oz vodka, 1/2 lillet. Which would make for a pretty enormous cocktail. I might experiment with a few variations and see what's nice.

I need to build a recipe page for all of these. A nice printable web page.
Also, if you like to drink Captain Morgan rum, there is a better alternative. Sailor Jerry has a slightly better taste with a higher alcohol content for the same price. It comes out far cheaper since you add much less to a drink for the same kick and taste.

Sailor Jerry? I don't think I've ever heard of that rum. I will keep an eye out for that the next time I'm at the liquor store.
Heh! Bc Liquor store carry it. But it's $3 more in Canada than the Captain Morgan. Weird! Still, I'll give it a try.

I did notice a large disparity of liquor prices in Canada. It wasn't the difference versus the US price but how they all compared to each other on the shelf. The pricing difference I'm accustomed to was all out of whack in Ontario. But I hit the duty free on the way back to the states at Niagra and scored cheap stuff all around.

The Duty Frees are fantastic. We always try and grab a couple bottles whenever we zip down to Washington for a weekend. One of the few advantages of living 15 minutes from your country.

But yeah, I've noticed that US pricing varies a lot from Canadian pricing based on country of origin. Some stuff is cheaper here, other stuff isn't.

Duty free doesn't get me a very good deal on rum but I assume being closer to the Caribbean and state taxes drives the price down. If you swing by the Caribbean, rum will be cheaper than water. The pirates turned out to be a blessing.

My buddy is from the caribbean. He always says that the rum is free on his home island, but water will cost you cash. :D

A while back I'd bought a few litres of vodka and gin for the express purpose of creating infusions. I finally started the process last night.

The chocolate mint vodka was a big hit last time, so I made another batch. There was a little bit left in the old bottle, so I had to drink that. I'll also probably do a vanilla vodka. I might also do a vanilla gin. But I'm definitely going to do a citrus blend gin - orange and lemons, the key ingredients in the 5 spice side cars. It will make the gin even better.

And apparently sake (the other ingredient in the sidecar) makes a decent infusion medium as well, so I may do some citrus blend sake. And perhaps some other fun flavours for our next sumo tournament.
