Odo was asking for some of my cocktail recipes. I figured I'd start a thread to post some of the martinis and cocktails as I try them. Jenn and I usually try something new each week. The first recipe is courtesy of Martini boys dot com. After Eight 2 oz Vodka 1 oz White Creme de Menthe 1 oz White Creme de Cacao Blend all ingredients together over ice, and strain liquid into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a mint sprig. ---- I did not have white creme de menthe, so I used the green stuff. It was a rather pleasant green colour. I had this drink while playing Conquerors online one night. The first couple sips were alright. But then the Mayans started attacking me and I was preoccupied. That let the drink mellow for about a half hour before I got another sip. And wow! A definite improvement. The second drink is a product of my own careful and meticulous experimentation. Greek martini. 3 parts Metaxa 3 parts sweet and sour mix 1 part apricot brandy Shake ingredients together. Serve in martini glass. Careful - these are potent. |

Potent is an understatement. Lethal would be closer to the truth! I haven't gotten that hammered off of two drinks in... well ever actually. |

Lance's Extra Dry martini 5 oz gin 1/4 oz dry vermouth Splash about 1/4 oz of dry vermouth into a martini shaker. Swirl the vermouth to coat the sides of the shaker and then discard the vermouth. Add 3 ice cubes and 5 oz gin. Shake vigourously until chilled. Pour into martini glasses. Garnish with one or two olives. Serves two. Alternately, you can use sweet vermouth (rosso) in place of the dry (sec) vermouth. In that case, make as above, but substitute sweet onions for the olives. Manhatten If you are more of a whiskey drinker than a gin or vodka drinker (or just find martini's too strong a flavor in general) try this recipe. 2 oz. Rye Whiskey (Crown Royal, though I find Wiser's Deluxe Canadian Whiskey has a nicer flavor) 1.5 oz. Sweet Vermouth (may add more or less depending on personal taste) 1 dash of Angostora Bitters 1-2 maraschino cherry + 1/2 tsp of juice Mix whiskey, vermouth and bitters in a cocktail shaker with ice. Add cherry(s) to a martini glass and pour the cocktail mixture in (sans ice). Really good if you can allow the drink to mellow for 15 minutes. |

I'm all for reading these threads and enjoy reading them even if I can't comment.. but if you're going to get hammered within two drinks, you may as well give up now if you're already over 21 ;) |

It's purely a comment on the toxicity of the drink. I'm a big guy, well insulated from the effects of alcohol unless I've had quite a few in a short period of time. But that night it went right to my head. Lance's too. I don't know if I hadn't eaten enough, if the room was too warm, or the fact that it tasted like juice and I drank 6oz of pure alcohol in about 45 minutes, which is fast even for Lance. Regardless, I got good and drunk that night, and it's been years since I got that hammered, despite many occassions were it should have happened. Anyway, enough masculine alcoholic defensiveness. Consider yourself warned. The Greek Martini is yummy, and highly toxic. ;) Edited by The Nighthawk, Jan 9 2009, 07:46 PM.

You're not off the hook yet! I'm watching you. Well, just reading your posts very methodically for any slip up. You guys must have large liquor cabinets. I don't drink often enough to warrant having various bottles of all that you guys are mixing. Or I'm just lacking having enough drinking events which can be solved. |

I've got a respectable liquor collection and a generous pour. But I think the two drinks is a bit misleading. We had my largest martini glasses filled virtually to the brim. By most restaurant standards, that's a quadruple or quint...ruple? I don't know the correct term. :P Edit: But the warning stands! Those martinis go down really, really, REALLY easy. And you won't notice it until you stand up and fall over. Edited by Benevolance, Jan 9 2009, 09:25 PM.

Sake, the drink that doesn't appear to have any effect until you go to stand up, and discover you can't move your legs. |

I just remembered a drink a friend invented many, many years ago. Antifreeze: Put a shot of blue curacao in a glass and pour in mountain dew until it arrives at the perfect shade of anti-freeze green. You don't have to worry much about the exact shade. Super sweet and loaded with caffeine and alcohol. |

That is a quickie version of the Irish Trashcan. The colour ends up being the same, but I think the trashcan is a little more potent on the caffeine. But your version is totally a whole lot easier to mix up! Irish Trashcan 1 part Curacao, blue 1 part Gin 1 part Rum, light 1 part Schnapps, peach 1 part Triple Sec 1 part Vodka 1 can Red Bull Fill glass full of ice, then add all liquors and stir. Add full can of Red Bull. It will float and slowly seep down the glass, turning the mix green, hence the name Irish Trash Can! |

It's like a Dr Pepper. The idea isn't that it tastes that great, but it's a drink designed to get a person drunk quickly; you're chugging back a shot and a glass of beer at the same time. Personally, I prefer quality over quantity. |

We have a half bottle of shochu at home. While I enjoy drinking it neat or on a little ice, this cocktail recipe sounds intriguing. I'm putting these here so I can try them when I am drinking again. Shochu Martini 1 Part Shochu 1 Part Cranberry Juice 1 Part fresh Pear Juice Add all ingredients - Shochu, Cranberry Juice and Pear Juice - to shaker with cracked ice. Mix contents. In a tall thin glass, muddle fresh mint leaves. Strain mixed drink into glass. Lychewan martini 6 parts sake 1 part Soho lychee liqueur 1 part sparkling wine Pre-chill glass with ice. Meanwhile mix the sake, Soho lychee liqueur and top up with sparkling wine. Serve chilled in a champagne flute. Edited by Benevolance, Oct 1 2009, 11:58 PM.

:) Smart ass. Haven't you guys ever had a Dr Pepper? You drop a shot of amaretto into a beer and chug it back. It's supposed to taste like actual Dr Pepper, but it really just tastes like beer with a bit of amaretto added in. |

I haven't tried that. I found it too easy to just buy a Dr. Pepper. I did discover that you can use Dr. Pepper to marinate meats while cooking them in a small amount of oil. I haven't done it yet but the sugar and huge amount of flavoring in the soda is supposed to do well. |

Last summer, we went to a place that had a barbecue sauce that was largely Dr. Pepper. It was pretty good. |

Dr Pepper (the soda) is my weakness. Add some amaretto and you have yourself a Dr Nut, which is a pretty fantastic party drink. It's been months since I had a Dr Pepper. There are some drawbacks to trying to eat healthy. :( Edited by Benevolance, Oct 5 2009, 02:37 PM.

You can divide the world into people who like Dr. Pepper and those who don't. One of those groups should be destroyed and it's not the one I'm in. |

Try slow cooking a roast in coke. Very tender and delicious. I've also had beef tips fried in coke. Delicious. |

I really need to try cooking with Dr. P if Coke does well. Dr. Pepper is loaded with more goodness and angel dust. |
