Well its something that always interested me I have to admit so since we have a area for actual discussions I thought I'd let you all take a crack at it ^_^ I've always felt that most people who consider themselves to be moral people, don't have to much difficulty either temporarily or permently suspending them for specific circumstances, Whether for sympathy or personal benefit. A standard example would be someone stealing bread to feed their family, Most people can understand and forgive or even completely ignore this if no obvious harm is done, to other people, property, economically ect. Even though it is stealing it tends to cause sympathy despite the fact that is still just theft. However if someone steals for or is thought to of stolen for selfish reasons, they rarely get sympathy. People in general tend to dislike or hate stealing in general, BUT alot of people like to claim a grey area when dealing with specific subjects that involve them, and now im finaly getting to where I'm going. Downloading a fan sub for free is acquiring material you should not legally posses at the expense of all of the companies that would go into selling it to you. It does hurt their business for your personal enjoyment. It is not bread. Discuss, Do you believe it is ok to make exceptions for your interests when it suits you? Do you try and be understanding of people who do things you don't consider moral? Do you download either music or anime without paying? do you consider it stealing? why? Are there other things you feel hypocritical about sometimes? I think it's wrong to steal for your own selfish needs, although I've stolen from my friends before, but the thing is always returned in like 2 minutes. Kind of like a joke. |

i guess it got lost in the rest of it but, What about downloads? Or do you buy all your anime and music? If no, how is it any different then stealing? And I'll state that i have stolen and likely will continue stealing when its convenient for me >_> though my definition of stealing could be different then everyone else as it includes taking any intellectual property without the owners permission (ie anime downloads) Edited by ParanoidKitten, May 31 2008, 05:09 AM.

I do think stealing is morally wrong, but things like downloading anime and manga, I can't see as stealing though I know it is. >.> |

Er... I stole when I was young >.> 2 euros because I wanted to buy some chips, but my mum didn't let me to and didn't give me any money >.> A week later, I secretly put it back in her bag, so does that count as stealing? Stealing is baaaa~d. That's what God said, in the Bible.  I don't see downloading as stealing. I see downloading as some kind of copying from the original.

I dunno if I really stole something... hehe.. I don't even remember anything... yeah stealing is B-A-D... you're making everyone angry just stealing something.. about downloading videos as long as the person who downloaded it made a credit to the owner that's not consider as stealing or just saying 'I don't own anything from this video' something like that, and if he/she claims that the video is his/hers that is considered as stealing and a copyright violence... errr... I was violated twice (deviantart) because I don't know anything yet about the copyright policy until I saw some people typing '©' or '(c)'... stealing can be occur for anything like artworks... they steal a better artwork from another artists then claims them as theirs, or anything that is not really their possession. -- just my opinion

the reproduction of any copywrited material without the copy write holders permission is illegal :p that's the main reason for getting getting copy write protection, its even in the name  secret I would think it is stealing but if you return it would cancel out i guess >_> to be honest the only reason we aren't all being raided or being served with lawsuits is because the music industry and movie industry don't care about anime, and thank god for that |

I heard here in The Netherlands downloading is allowed, but uploading copy-righted material isn't. Wheter it is true or not, I don't know :p I never stole anything if I am correct... can't think of anything. |

it doesn't make it any less stealing, does it chocolate? so if you think stealing is wrong then it should be the same... but most wouldn't consider it the same which is the topic, why isn't it the same? |
