ROLEPLAYING RULES No controlling, god-moding, power-playing, bunnying, etc. This is pretty much a given. Do not control anything except your characters - your character and their Pokemon. You can describe your Pokemon's attacks or your character throwing a Pokeball, for instance, but you cannot state whether either of them hit. Likewise, you cannot control the weather, your surroundings, non-player-characters, other characters, etc. You ≠ your character. This means three things. First of all, you and your character are simply different people. If someone says they do not like your character, that does not mean they have anything against you personally, because your character should not be a self-insert anyway. Secondly, do not bring drama that is OOC (out of character) in-character, and vice-versa. Because you had a fight with someone else's character does not mean they hate you in real life. Just because you had a fight with someone in the chat box, does not mean you can suddenly do something out-of-character because you are mad. Thirdly, metagaming is not allowed. Metagaming is using out-of-game information, or resources, to affect one's in-game decisions. For example, if the admin notes that a NPC has a hidden weapon or is otherwise keeping some secret, whether in or out of game, you cannot have your character suddenly notice the weapon. This is also true in character relations. If you are meeting up with another person's character, you have probably read their profile, so you know all about their past and everything. But your character is not privy to that knowledge. They cannot start rattling off facts about the other character just because you know them. Likewise, you are probably familiar with much of the game mechanics surrounding Pokemon - but unless you are playing a professor trainee your character will probably not have a vast knowledge of everything Pokemon. The specifics on language, violence and adult situations. Your character can curse. Obviously, doing so should be in-character for them, not just dropping the f-bomb because you had a bad day. An addendum to this is that even if it is in-character for your character to cuss like a sailor, you cannot have every other word be some sort of curse, or you will lose the privilege of having your character use adult language. Which means they will have to use curses like "darn" and "golly gee" instead. Violence is allowed. This is a realistic Pokemon roleplay, meaning that characters will fight each other. They will get hurt, they will bleed, they will die. But this does not mean that you can go into extremely graphic and excessive detail about the violence being inflicted. You can inflict violence upon NPCs (non-player characters) if you wish to do so, but keep in mind that excessive violence will probably get you in trouble in-character with the law. Remember them? There will be no sex in this game. It is not a place for anyone to play out their fantasies. Like the violence clause, you may not go into graphic and obsessive detail about what is going on in your character's pants. Romance between players is fine, as long as it is consensual, not just powerplaying someone into "troo luvv". Hugging and kissing is okay. Flirting is fine. Innuendo and sexual references should be kept to a minimum unless they are absolutely tame. Anything else should be a "fade to black". If you want to, go to an instant messenger. You will be banned for cybering. And lastly, although it is kind of a cliche, sexual abuse can be a part of your character's past. Once more, do not go into detail. Implication is just fine. Our criteria of spelling and grammar, post length, tense, person. There is no minimum or maximum in post length. Quality over quantity is the credo here. That does not mean you need to pare your post down if you feel like writing something long, or that a post should be a series of one-liners, either. The mod who is responding to your posts always adds something for your character to respond and react to. Your character is not just standing there doing absolutely nothing, deadpanning commands to their Pokemon. Something should happen in each post. Proper spelling and grammar should be used at all times. Misspelling something occasionally or making a typo is not going to get you banned or anything, but we may PM you if it is consistent and obvious. Posts should be in past tense, third person. Admins making responses are in second person, present tense. Dialogue should be in "quotation marks", thoughts should be italicized. Activity expectations. Please try to be as active as possible. You do not have to post every day, but do not simply join then disappear. If you are going to be away for a while, please post a notice in the Activity Forum. We are very understanding concerning real-life matters and the impact they have on forum activity. |

BATTLING Stats do not exist in this role-play in terms of numbers. Despite this, Rapidash will still be fast and Steelix will still be bulletproof. When Pokemon faint is determined by their health ("HP" - drained by being attacked) and energy ("PP" - drained by attacking, battling in general, hunger and thirst, etc.). The mod will inform the user of these regularly. If Pokemon have two abilities, both will be used. Three attacks can be used per turn, including an if clause ("Scratch and Ember, and if it tries to run, use Flamethrower!"). Any more commands will confuse the Pokemon. Commanding your Pokemon to dodge or otherwise move around the battlefield qualifies as an attack as well. Status effects, such as poison and paralysis, can be stacked. This means that Pokemon can have more severe status effects (more severe burns, paralysis, etc.) and that a Pokemon can be have multiple statuses at once (being asleep and also burned, for example). Pokemon can incur injuries from battle, such as blindness or broken limbs. Depending on the severity of the injury, they may be permanent. If they push themselves past the point of exhaustion, they may not be able to evolve. Death is also possible in extreme situations. Trainers can and will be openly targeted during battles that are not officially sanctioned by the Pokemon League. You had best learn to either not stand in the line of fire or to run out of the way. In battles against wild Pokemon, you have the option to try and run, if you wish. This may not always work, however. When battling against a trainer, you may forfeit, but you cannot run away. New moves are learned through tutoring a Pokemon - through this, they can learn their level-up moves and the TM/HM moves of their type(s). Pokemon can only learn moves that are part of their canon moveset. For example, Charizard will not be using Thunderbolt or Surf. All Pokemon are capable of using certain attacks. Any Pokemon can throw its weight around, and a Pokemon with teeth can bite. These attacks will be weaker than their learned counterparts. Also, the attacks will have no typing - a Bulbasaur using Bite would not do dark-typed damage against an Abra, for instance. It is long, so please click the spoiler tag. Spoiler: click to toggle

EXPERIENCE & EVOLUTION Experience is given situationally based on the effort exerted by the Pokemon. If the Pokemon either fights a futile or effortless battle, they will gain no experience. Pokemon will still gain experience even if they lose, so long as the battle was not terminally short (i.e. the other Pokemon comes in and sweeps yours with one blow). Partial experience is expressed in decimals - level 10.5, for example. Pokemon can occur during battle if the conditions for their evolution are met. To see evolutions that require an special circumstance, please click the spoiler tag. Spoiler: click to toggle

CATCHING For reference purposes, the top of the Pokeball is translucent - the Pokemon inside can see and hear anything that is going on outside of its ball if it wishes. This is how commands can be given preemptively to a Pokemon still within its ball. In order to catch a Pokemon, you must weaken it first. Unless it was already weakened, or agreed to travel with you, or was just incredibly weak in the first place, the Pokeball will likely fail. Even if you faint a Pokemon, you can still capture it. If a Pokeball fails, you may use it again so long as you can retrieve it. So if the ball has been destroyed or fallen down a bottomless pit, you had better reach for another one. You can release a Pokemon at any time; you should probably be outside, but you do not need to be at a PC. Once you catch more than the six-Pokemon limit for your party, there is nothing stopping you from carrying the extra Pokemon with you. You may even use them if you wish, but keep in mind that doing so is illegal in the Pokemon world, and if you run in with the law, you may be in trouble. If your character is not the law-abiding type, feel free to completely ignore this. |

ITEMS Healing items, like Potions and Revives, can be used in battle. However, you must not be separated from your Pokemon by physical obstacles or the line of fire. In other words, if you are going to get barbecued, maimed or electrocuted, you cannot administer the item. You cannot use any other items during battle, like evolution stones, hold items and Rare Candies. In order to use a TM or HM, simply give the item to your Pokemon and the moderator will describe the learning process. Do keep in mind that TM/HM moves are not automatically learned - they must be practiced in order to be mastered and used correctly. |
