BACKGROUND: After the Forth World War in the early 22nd Century the Commonwealth Navy was steadily built up into a powerful force in order to protect Commonwealth Space in the Sol system and the new Colonies that were springing up out in the universe as Humanity moved out further into the stars. For the next hundred years the Commonwealth Navy helped keep the peace between nations, with the occasional brush fire coming up throughout Commonwealth space being the only action that the Fleet had to deal with. It was at the beginning of the 23rd Century that everything changed. In the year 2215 contact with a alien race was finally achieved. In what became known as the First Battle of Groombridge 34 the Commonwealth and European Republic Navies were able to hold off the alien race known as the Euglin, when another race, the Rion, arrived behind the Euglin forces and completely destroyed the Euglin forces. A month later the Second Battle of Groombridge 34 was fought with all three races attempting to hold off a renewed attempt to take the system. In a battle that lasted hours the Combined Fleets of the "Alliance" were forced to evacuate the Groombridge 34 system. After that the Euglin forces began the conquest of Humanity's colonies in space. For the next ten years Human, Rion, and Tuarn Forces fought the Euglin forces in what has been come to known as the Human Cluster. During this time the Commonwealth's Navy was knocked to it's core as it discovered it's ships were out dated and some no match for the larger Euglin ships. Commonwealth shipyards back on Earth and in Alpha Centauri worked non-stop to rebuild the Navy to a point where they could fight the Euglin on equal terms. By 2224 the Commonwealth Navy was deemed ready for a counteroffensive. Working in tandem with the Rion Empire and the European Republic the Allied forces were able to first halt and then take back the New Wales Colony in the Deneb System. From there they were able to push back to the New Quebec Colony in the Ceti System. There they came across something that no one had seen before.. a massive gate had been constructed and from there the Alliance forces found that the Euglin were able to go to completely different galaxies, but then it was found that it was not a different galaxy but the same Galaxy but an alternate reality. It was there that the Alliance forces came into contact with the Galactic Federation, who while fighting their own enemy called the Polseen has also come up against the Euglin due to the gate being constructed. It was therefore decided that both the Alliance and the Galactic Federation would join to gather to attack and destroy the Euglin threat. New ship designs were created and Alliance forces were strengthened. It is now June 2225, and Commonwealth and Alliance Forces are ready for the next step in the war. =================================================================================================== Rebuilding of the Fleet: Before the Euglin War the Commonwealth Navy was structured as a single entity, with all member states sending their soldiers to join the Armed Forces. With the massive losses suffered in the early states of the war it was decided that each Nation belonging to the Commonwealth would be able to fund and equip their own Navy, which in turn would compose the new Commonwealth Navy. With the increased funding and hundreds of thousands of volunteers signing up for service the Commonwealth was able to construct new and more powerful ships. What once had been a force of a around three hundred ships had now become a force of close to fifteen hundred ships. |
