NES: SMB -> SMB2 (both JP and US) -> SMB3 SNES: SMW N64: SM64 GCN: SMS Wii: SMG -> SMG2

And Reggie, president of NOA, has stated that SMG2 will be much harder than the first and more pleasing to hardcore fans. He also said that the dificulty level will surpass SMW, which most people say is the hardest Mario platformer. So don't dismiss it just yet!
