In Fugl Brenna we use a system of ranks, here is a quick explanation of them: (To be edited) Helot (Helots were the people of Messenia, west of Laconia, who were conquered and enslaved by the Spartans) - All newcomers would start as a helot. helots do not get a vote in our politics (this is so people voting have at least some experience with dagorhir.) to advance in rank you must attend a certain amount of practices ( I'm thinking 5) or build/buy enough dagorhir legal equipment to equip yourself for your preferred fighting style. Hoplite ( a hoplite was the core of the Greek military, they were similar to a militia, they were regular citizens, farmers, merchants etc. who would buy their own equipment and fight for their polis (city state, Athens, Sparta, Corinth etc. ) when called on.) - the hoplite rank in our realm would be the core members, they would have equal say in in politics as any of the higher ranks. to advance from this rank you would have to show knowledge of dagorhir tactics, you would also need to own enough dagorhir legal equipment to equip yourself for your preferred fighting style. Spartiate (these were the professional soldiers of Sparta. because Spartans had the helots and women to tend their farms and houses they could devote all of their time to training for war. ) - for us this rank would be one who owned their own equipment and demonstrated skill in fighting and knowledge of applicable tactics. Hippeis (these are the famous 300 from the battle of Thermopylae, the body guards of the king of Sparta) - this rank would be like spartiatites... but better. Ephor (Ephors are the old nasty guys in "300", in actuality the ephors were a council of 5 men who advised the kings and would oversee the army. 2 ephors would always accompany the king on a campaign) - blah blah blah, higher rank than hippeis. Basileis (this is Greek for king, they were the head of the spartan government, and military. the basileis was expected to serve as an example of morals for the Spartans. they would lead their armies to the death if necessary... Leonidas anyone?) - congrats you have achieved the highest rank of our realm... you get to lead us in battles. Edited by Grukar, Feb 24 2009, 11:10 PM.
